Just looking to get an update on what the aspens are doing up in the Mtns. Maybe we can keep this thread going with ongoing reports over the next few weeks of where you went and what you saw.
Thanks,
John

The hills in the Roaring Fork Valley look like a blanket of soft velvet, they just keep getting brighter and brighter. Lots of Aspen trees are already gold and will probably turn firey red within the next couple of weeks.

The Ridgway/Ouray/Telluride area is still mostly green. A few places are just starting to turn. The scrub oak is further along with several areas of red and orange.

Friday, 9-16, starting from Gunnison to Lake City then to Ouray, Ran Engineers Pass, California Pass, Pougheskeepsie Gulch, County Rd 9 by Ridgeway thru Double RL ranch to box factory park where we hiked near the base of Mt. Sneffles.
Then, Sat. 9-17, ran Black Bear from Red Mountain Pass to Telluride, Last Dollar Road and the Divide Road along the Dallas Divide from Hwy 62 to Hwy 141.
Trees are just starting to change, next couple of weekends looks like it should be prime time for viewing IMO.

We did a quick group run up Twin Cone on Saturday - here's my daughter at the top - she did most of the driving in the sammi:

And a view of the aspen along the trail. Most of the trees on the way up on 285 were still green. Most of the trees on the trail were just starting to turn.

This was today on Saxon Mt. above Georgetown. A lot of the leaves were starting to fall and many were starting to turn brown. I don't know how much will be left for next weekend.

We came up Phantom Canyon Rd. into Victor today. LOTS of yellow at the higher elevations. The closer we got to Victor, the faster the leaves seemed to be falling off the trees, so they won't last long. Lots of color between Victor and Cripple Creek along 67.
