How about a "rig of the week" spotlight? Take one members vehicle and highlight it on the site for one week. display photos, specs, videos, etc....

Also list info about the member so we get to know who's out there.

Obviously it would have to be with the members approval and maybe you could choose the primary spotlights based on pics that are already posted to this site.

Just a thought.....

That sounds good to me. I love checking out different rigs. Gives me ideas a dreams for my own.

I think that it would be interesting but probably kinda time consuming to keep up. It would be something that I would check out.

edit: It could be a good way for the shops on the vendor list to show off some of their projects.

We had a rig of the week feature a long time ago. I believe it was more work than anticipated and was dropped. The Reader's Rigs section is pretty interesting to surf through and is set up in the same format as the old ROTW feature.

I remember that too, it didn't get updated very often. IIRC, it was a rig of the month, which would be much more practical than rig of the week, and we only had a few hundred members back then.

Part of the problem originally was that we took the feature info pretty much straight up from a reader's rig thread. Therefore, the only candidates were those reader's rig threads that had good pictures and decent descriptions. The low population back then definitely made it more difficult, but even so, there was a remarkably low percentage of eligible threads.

Instead of writing actual features, it'd be cool of the front page could link to a random thread in the reader's rig forum. I should think that's within the scope of this software. Hopefully that'll encourage more people to update their information or create a thread for themselves if they haven't already.

On fullsizebronco.com we have a fullsize of the month thread. In this thread 10 rigs are nominated then the members vote for the rig of the month. Each person/rig posts pics, info, video, ect on their own to promote their own rig. This happens througout the month culminating in the winner, voted by the members, getting their rig on the Home page. We could call it Colorado4x4 of the month. Just a suggestion. here is the link (http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27)

This is the best idea. I would be very interested to see this and to get to know the people here. Good stuff!

Instead, how about MILF of the week.
Or is that what Wally is already doing?

Looks like matt just updated his site, rmftc.com. I'm not very good at this computer stuff but i like his new change, It has a posted pic and then next too it it runs random pictures off his gallery of user rigs, don't know what it would take but I like it

I haven't looked, but it sounds similar to what I have planned here. The current Reader's Rigs forum is going away and will be replaced with a dedicated folder in the Photo Gallery. The front page will then pick random photos from within this folder to display on the front page. This will give exposure to all of the rigs.

As mentioned above, the Featured Rig was attempted in the past with disappointing results. At least two people had volunteered their time to manage it, and in both cases they lost interest after a few writeups. The feedback I got was that it was too much effort because nobody was nominating rigs, thus they had to pick and choose on their own.

I'll implement the "Random Rig" feature when I upgrade the software. The bulletin board, front page, and photo gallery software all have updates available but I'm awaiting the next "major" update to the bulletin board software. So far the results from the beta release candidate look very promising, so this may happen within the next month or so.

Hey Eric,
I upgraded to vBulletin 3.5 over on MallCrawlin.com and it's working well so far. Only issue is that aren't any real good styles available yet that are compatible with 3.5.

Yikes, I didn't notice that they released it over the weekend. That's good news, now I just need to block out some time to upgrade everything :silly: Maybe this weekend.

Actually it's been out over a week now I think. The upgrade went real smooth, just can't find a style we like and neither of us are good enough to make our own!

Released on the 28th so yeah, tomorrow will be a week. Got my dates screwed up.

They don't have a style importer in the new version? Lovely...

They don't have a style importer in the new version? Lovely...No, but they apparently do have an avatar-scrambler. Check with Tiffster for details.

Perhaps I'll just wait for 3.5.1 then ;)

Naw, the avatar scramble was due to 2.3.0 and moving servers. I noticed about 6 forums last week that had moved servers and were running 2.3.0 and had the avatar issue.

I upgraded to the new 3.5 and so far the issues are few. There is also a new version of vBadvanced out that works with vB3.5.

I'm with you on that. I'll sit back another week or so and see how it goes for everyone else.
