So I needed to kill some stress last night (big interview this afternoon). Fired up BF2. Practiced flying jets and helo's on a 0 player server. Getting the knack of it, especially with the jet. Going to take some patience before I am effective with them though. I wonder if it is worth it to practice those, since I like being a commander better. Definitely can't do that and fly well...

My laptop would self-destruct if I tried, but Pam's PC was built to game, so I think that may work, it's just LOW on HD space right now. 1.8Ghz Athlon, 1 gig RAM, some super fancy video card. Apparently it handled EQ pretty well, and it does just great with BF1942 and BFVietnam.

Also, if your PC (well, Pam's PC) has a DVD drive, get the DVD version. It's all on one disc. I heard the CD version is on 3 discs. That would be a PITA for the install.

I built my computer to run this beast of a game (along with half life 2) I am cheap so i just pulled my old vid card (5700LE) I would and it works ok, tho I have it overclocked :cool:. I would imagin that you can get them for about $70 now days.

The CD version is 3 cd's but you only need them for the install, not for the while you are playing.

Clyde, there is a single player, but its not real fun. You can only play limited maps, and as far as I know you can't fly anything. You can however make your own sever to pratice flying, but there isn't anyone to shoot :D

The 5700 is better than the 5500, but I am willing to bet that it would run BF2, just not very well. I go to PCclub because they have sold me on there costumer service. They are awsome, and if you get there ad in your e-mail, there are some sweet deals! They are way cheaper than bestbuy, and I would trust there tech's more too. But that is just my .02

Hopefully we'll get it ranked. The only problem with that is you can have all the mods that will soon be coming out. That will be kinda lame since we already know all the maps like the back of our hands.

You actually don't need "Teamspeak" to play. They have there own VOIP software that loads on your computer when you load the game.

You just have to set it up so it sounds good to other people.


One other thing. If you really want to experience "Team play", then go to the "Tactical Gamer" server and play. You have to join a squad or you will be kicked. The people on there are always talking (With VOIP)to so thats fun.
The only bad part is that it's not ranked. But it's probably the best server out there.

Wait till you buy the game and it sucks up another 2.5 gigs of your HD. games these days are getting to be 4 to 6 CD's now like DOOM III and World of Warcarft. At least I have a 200 gig HD :D




Edit: BTW I run BF2 with everything at it's highest settings with my 6800GT card and it doesn't even studder a frame.

Damn nVidea! Pam has an nvidea MoBo and Graphics card in there. Drivers are interlinked... Told Dave to just take out the old card, drop in the new one, and start it up. Should drop into 16 color mode and then load the drivers. Well see if the smoke actually turns to fire and Pam and Dave show up at my door! LOL

I played a little bit last night, not for too long though. I was holding my own, and enjoying it a lot more than the single player stuff. There's just not enough bots in the single player stuff. On BFVietnam I know you could set up to 64 bots which was sweet. People shootin all over the damn place!!

I don't have a ton of time to play BF2, outside of my days off during the day, so hopefully we can find sometime here when I can join in and play with everyone.

I have found it's a lot harder to get a kill in BF2 than BFVietnam. In BFV I would always use the L.A.W. kit, rocket launcher with a kickass machine gun, and could just blow people away. It's taking 6 or 7 shots with the assault kit now, kinda sucks. I did get a few BOOM!!! HEADSHOT!!! in though!!

Also, if your PC (well, Pam's PC) has a DVD drive, get the DVD version. It's all on one disc. I heard the CD version is on 3 discs. That would be a PITA for the install.

We have 2 systems... Both 3ghs dells with a gig of ram and geforce 6800's 256 meg. I just played the bf2 demo and i'm sold. Just have to get into town to go buy it. The wife and daughter have 2 Dinsey accounts they play. ToonTown is EQ for kids and women..=) oH and are you all using the voice support stuff? I will buy a mic sn stuff if it's worth it. I use Team Speak for the most part. haven't messed with the VoIP yet. Some form of communication is a must though. Get a good set of head phones with a Mic and set up everything for voice activation.

The VoIP engine for BF2 comes with the game, but the server that you are playing on must have it enabled.

Depends on the server. Sounds like most people are going back to Team Speak. But from what I understand, Team Speak takes away from BF2 and it's team work that VoIP brought in.

The BF2 VoIP forces you to communicate with your Squad. Team Speak allows you to speak with anyone. Which I think is why people are going back to TS.

At times it would be nice to talk to my entire team but I've found that there really isn't any need. With squads being so important in this game each squad is usually off doing a different attack or defend so needing to talk to them isn't that big a deal. However... I would say that if all of us deside to get into one server some night it would be nice to be able to talk to everyone rather than just a few guys in the squad.


Also, I hate playing without any form of voice chat... I find it that important.

Bought and played it last night. I did have trouble connecting to the account server a couple times so they must have had some issues. I had a blast though. Played on some fast 64 player servers. I think the Gamespot server mostly. No one seems to use the Voip that I could tell. That's fine. great game. I stayed up way to late though..heh

I've found that 90% of the time everyone has it but no one talks until someone starts. It's like they're afraid to use it or something. Usually when I join a squad I'll just ask how everyone is doing and that normally starts up the Voice comm chatter like there's no tomorrow. Just probe for the voice chat when you join a squad... people can still hear you also even if they're not using the mic and headphones. Unless they turned of the Voice Comm all together.

EA is having issues adding acount info for the Multiplayer side of things. Didn't help that I have different ID's for the different sites but using the same email. I had to go through and get my ID's all set the same. Once that was done, the system told me the server refused connection.

Talked with GameSpy about it this morning and read some of threads on the EA site and sounds like EA is running out of room. My guess is they under designed or misallocated database servers.

Still pretty pissed that I have to actually use Game Spy to some extent. That is one piece of trash application...

Going to trey again tonight now that have my GS/GSA/EA and IGN id's and emails all matched up.

Also, this data in the end get's stored on your local system. So be forewarned if you have to reload the game for whatever reason. Several people have reported that they were in at one time, had to reload the game and then could not get the login info for thier profiles.

Sometimes, I really don't understand the vehicle run overs... it doesn't really require you to be moving that fast to kill someone.

Haven't jumped in a plane yet, but yeah, the helo's are pretty easy. But damn are they slow... I need to readjust the key and mouse sensitivity.

Still need to work on a few things to get up and running 100%. And that damn VoIP... How in the heck do you adjust it mid game? I couldn't hear a damn thing my Squad was saying, but I could hear them talking. Has anyone found a way to make voice active instead of key active?

Defending a flag is where it doesn't change to the other team... rather you kill them before it goes neutral.

when i installed, default was VOIP enabled, and vox is the ony option i've seen. if there are more options that i have not found, then maybe that explains my frustration - the options menu has a test mic button, and i test out just fine, BUT, once i jump in a VOIP server, like BFSupreme, no one hears me, and i get no little icon blink.

Man, I jumped on yesterday afternoon and, well, not even sure if "Schooled" is the right word for it. I did manage to blow up the enemy radar and command post though. But some one was waiting for it to happen everytime. So they were doing a good job of protecting their communications areas.

Need to reset the mouse settings to, way to sensitive! Every time I turned to to fire, I would go way past my target. Love getting everything dialed in...

Probably the commander. Once spec forces start earning points for destroying assets, expect to see a lot more people protecting those things.

Yeah, i kind of figured that was what was going on. It didn't take him to long to find me after I took the Command trailer thingy out the first time. I was wondering how effective an entire squad of Spec Ops would be.

My brother and I want to try it some time. Sole mission, to blow stuff up.

You would at least need one supply guy to keep you stocked up. Crate delays take too long and make you vulnerable if you are trying to move fast.

Odd. It might have queued you up. Try again in a couple of hours. Or use that deadlycombat.com site. I just like how BF2S presents the info.

So how do you pick up the ammo? I had a guy drop some at my feet and I just stared at it longingly... G? Actually, the map ended before I could even try. is it the same for resupply drops?

G for stuff on the ground. For supply drops, you just stand by the crate. If the support guy is in a vehicle, you can just stand by the vehicle. I usually try to be in a vehicle. I play support a lot. That and sniper.

I played a little yesterday afternoon. My kills to death ratio SUCKS!!! The game is slightly too dependent on vehicles for my playing style from the older games. In BFVietnam it took two shots to take out a tank an RPG. I don't think I've taken one out on foot yet.

I did nail two guys with a sniper rifle from about 150 yards yesterday, that was pretty sweet.

What kits do most peeps run with? In BF42 I usually run Spec Ops or Support. So far in BF2 I run Spec Ops almost exclusively.

to build a good squad, you have to have a medic and a support gunner. every thing else is just optional. Anti tank is VERY nice too, but not as crucial. I usaly play assult... i love the gernade lancher! see you on later

You can bank on me running spec ops. And I am always on the lookout for arty, radar, etc... But yeah, I run out of c4 pretty quick. Found all the damn calls too. What a pain in the arse... can I have my F keys back please?

Some people out there playing commander have no concept of the job. They just want the commander points, which suck unless the team does really, really well. But I still play commander more often than not, as I'd rather do it than have some dumbass leading...

Yeah, I was talking to my brother about that today. He like to be the Squad Leader, direct his squad and relay orders back. But he keeps his butt hidden so that the spawn point stays active. He also runs medic or support depending on what the squad is trying to do.

Anti-Armor and he will run support for ammo, if the squad is running light infantry, he will run medic.
