View Full Version : Timer adjustment?

Is there a way to adjust when the software decides that you have been logged in long enough to set ALL of the threads in the forum as "seen"? If I pop in to read something and then get called away from the computer for more than 30 minutes or so, when I come back every thread in every forum has been set to seen. This makes it pretty difficult to keep up with stuff. It even erases all of the "go to first unread" check marks. Surely there's a variable somewhere to either turn this "feature" off or set it to a longer time window, perhaps 24 hours? http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/images/smilies/smile.gif

jkskier, what's wrong with your clock? Did you select the correct timezone in your settings?
Harry, I don't believe that's a per-user setting. I think it's a global setting although I'm not sure where it is. When I get a chance I'll look into it and see what it is currently set to and/or if I can even change it.

Thanks Eric, my guess is that it's a global variable stored somewhere on the server. But I can't think of any good reason for it to even exist. Why would the developers think that a forum member would want to have all of their threads set as seen after a certain period of time? Just doesn't make sense to me and I've been using various forum software since the early days of text-based VaxNotes... (And yeah, you're old if you remember that!) http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Ah yes, I "browsed" several web sites using Lynx in the early days! http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/images/smilies/eek.gif

Actually, I still use a program similar to lynx (just a little smarter) for certain tasks, and I really do miss the days before all this gooey stuff. It has certainly slowed down the system.
