I drove down to the Springs today to pick up a 2008 Versys. Rode back to Arvada via 83, 85, and Kipling. It's a whole lot of fun, and got it for a steal.

Went camping to do some riding in Uncompahgre NF and decided to bring my supermoto along since I had room in the trailer. Ended up do 75 miles of exploring on the plateau. The CRF230M was amazing on the dirt and trails. Not so good in the mud. I rode the CRF250X on some epic single track too. Buck Trail is legit. I'm gonna call it the Princess Bride trail as it was very much like the scene where they enter the forest. This trail kept throwing obstacles at me left and right. It had a little bit of everything. Had I known what I was getting in to, I likely would have passed due to being alone.

What I'm getting at is that I didn't expect to have as much fun exploring on the M. That Versys should be a hoot. Don't be afraid to get on the dirt. The tires on the M were way better on the dirt than I had expected.

That's the reason I went with a Versys (other big consideration was the DL650 but couldn't find one in the price range I was looking for), I have a desire to get off-road a little bit, and if I like it a lot I'll get a more dirt-centric bike as well.

Great bike, but the 2009's are better ;-).

If it has basic street tires on it, it won't be a lot of fun on the dirt, at least it wasn't for me. I've run a few different sets of more aggressive tires on mine, and it seems to do a little better on the back roads.

The pics below were taken during a ride last fall on Goose Creek Road - FR 211 - between Deckers and Tarryall. A great ride that combines a lot of twisty mountain riding, 30ish miles of dirt, and then a fun ride on the Tarryall road back to Jefferson/South Park.

I'm always up for rides, but my schedule will be pretty crappy for the next 6 weeks (not sure I like working for a public company that has a June 30th year end).

If I wanted to finance it, I could have gotten a '15 with all the new fancy stuff on it, but I don't like to finance toys.
Yeah, I will be getting a slightly more dirt-friendly tire when these are done.
What tank bag do you have there?

I'm headed out to Cleveland Wednesday morning, and won't be back until the 21st, so let me know when you've got some time and want to get away from the books.

That bag is an old Cortech mini. Worked well, zipper is now completely destroyed so I just ordered a MotoCentric Mototrek 14 Tank Bag, should get here today.

Let me know how you like it, the price sure is right.

A little wide for the tank. The two "wing" magnets in the front are sitting over the faring plastic on the sides of the the tank. I could get some rare earth magnets and glue them under the fairings and they would probably stick really well.

However, even with those two magnets not sticking to anything, there are still four magnets holding it to the tank. Also, I can tighten down the "leash" around the bars and that helps secure it pretty well. And it does not interfere with the bars at full lock.

It's not the most stable thing in the world, but it doesn't move around at all, even at 'slightly higher' than highway speeds ;)

It certainly holds a lot more stuff than my last bag. I'll try to snap a few pics tomorrow.

 trying to decide if the OEM Versys bag is worth the coin.

If they're the ones you want, they're worth it.

Thanks :flipoff2: I don't know which one I want yet.

I did buy these bags.

crappy cell phone pics, but here is the bag on the Versys. There are four magnets on the base of the bag, plus the two 'wings'. If the bag was 2 inches narrower, it would probably be perfect. Their next smaller size might fit better, but it is about half the size. It really doesn't move around at all.

Looks good. How easy is it to remove the bag to fill the tank?

Jeff Mason

It has a quick clip on the strap running to the bars. Takes about 5 seconds to remove it, then lift the bag out of the way. If I didn't run my USB cables through the back end, it would be even easier.

At my cousin's suggestion I put one of these on last night it makes the seat much more comfortable (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JMK7N8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00).
