I LOVE the no ground clearance loss!

Keep us posted! :) :D

So what would you say to a gain of a full inch in ground clearance as compared to the stock crossmember?

We won't even talk about the gains vs. Brand "X" parts...

bob, i'm bursting at the seams here.. :D

given all the research time and my previous long arm experience, as far as i'm concerned, this is by far the sickest long arm setup on the market and i'd gladly put it up against anything else out there.

It looks a lot like the RE radius arm set up for the TJ. If it flex's like the RE does I may put in an order. Talk about the frame/chassis bracing a little. That unibody really does need something to stiffen it up.

Looks good!

Look at the picture again and look at the exposed unibody rail...think stiffener. ;)
We'd really like to tell you more but we can't until it's available. Take a little more time and inspect the photo's. It's all right there you just have to see it...now that's ALL we're gonna leak.

I did look and asked for more talk about the stiffner in my original post. My XJ needs that badly if I am ever going to be able to wheel it.

Trust me, these are worth the wait.

I REALLY like the bends in the long arms at the point where the upper arms connect (creating the Y shaped long arm). I saw something similar on a custom long arm setup on a TJ - gives really nice clearance under there but still gives full range of motion. Looking forward to seeing how things are fabricated with the linkage mounts on/near the cross member.

Nice work!

Any issues/concerns with corrosion within those 'frame stiffners'?

philip... the clearance is amazing! the days of not getting full turn with long arms are gone.

on-road manners: excellent! i put about a billion miles on my rig a week and i have absolutely no complaints at all.

cross member connection: i can't get into too much detail but know that i can't think of a better way to mount them. ie: super slick!

cross member: if you could see the top of the crossmember (facing up) and the construction that went into it, you'd definitely get an idea of how well constructed this thing is. plus.. 1" of clearance over stock isn't so bad either. ;)

frame stiffeners: stitch welded for drainage. i can't believe how much more solid my setup seems with them. also, it's definitely nice to have that protection to my frame rails. the only creeking i hear anymore is from my rear hatch area now.

overall, there's no way i could possibly be happier with the setup. the research that went into both the long arm kit and the stiffeners was pretty substantial and ALL opinions we're considered in the design of it. Bob and Matt talked to quite a few XJ guys to find out what they'd like to see in these setups and made it happen. it's killing me to not be able to give specific details into the construction of these kits... just know, there's NOTHING on the reatail market that's even in the same league. once i can release some specs, you'll obviously see what i'm talking about.

production has started on them but you're looking at about 30-60 days out before the release to the public. we're working on getting both the long arm kit and the stiffeners out for resale as fast as humanly possible. if this timeline changes, we're all over it!

and of course.. Formatt Fabrications (http://www.formattfab.com) will be offering these TnT Customs (http://www.tntcustoms.com) kits to the public for local distribution as well as internet sales!

oh yeah.. and those of you pm'ing me wanting the inside scoop... sorry. :P

I'm sorry i couldn't get a *cleaner* pic... it's crappy outside and everything is a mess right now. i'll definitely get some nicer pics this weekend when it dries up a bit. These arms are on my daily driver so i'm sure everyone will understand....

as you can see, the clearance is amazing! The arms are literally at the same angle as the drive shaft and sits about a 1/2" below the same plane that the shaft is on. Out of curiosity, i measured what kind of clearance you're getting from bent arms over straight... somewhere around 1.75" to 2".

here are a few details regarding the arms: The lower control arms are made out of 1.75" x .250 wall DOM (not sleeved) tubing. All bushing sleeves are also made out of heavy wall tubing. The upper control arms are also made out of .250 wall DOM and the adjustable end of the uppers is the heaviest duty on the market at this time.

Update as requested, sorry for the delayed response. We are currently building a piece of shop equipment to be able to produce the high quality we demand of our products and give us more capability to better serve our customers. We are also working out the CNC code to produce some of the sub-assemblies of the kit. The initial kit is still in the "road (trail) and emperical" test phase and the reports are coming back from our tester that all is well, great in fact. We have a second prototype to be built on the books, but until we get our equipment built and programmed we are holding off on the second proto. Sorry I can't give you an exact date when that or the final version will be released. We are working this kit and everything associated with it for you our valued customers.

96Country, the upper control arm will need to be disconnected from the axle end or the lower control arm end, then you can lower the skid with the lower control arms connected to the skid and axle.

Thanks, Bob

How much does this set up weight? looks very strong, but I bet it could rival a suburban

formatt
December 8th, 2004, 10:04 AM
Hey guys...

OneTon in Dayton.. honestly, never heard of them. Also, you'd better direct that question to Bob and Matt. They're the designers.

Weight: not too bad at all. Bob, care to chime in here one your guesstimate? I was easily able to lift the x-member with the arms connected and carry it over to my rig. If i had to take a stab at it, i'd say maybe 30-40 lbs for everything?? i definitely wouldn't hold me to that though. i couldn't tell you what each individual piece weighs.

i've got more pics if anyone would like to see them... i can post this evening.

Matt ask Hinkley, One ton is on the NAXJA boards and has a custom 3 link front

RockYacht
December 9th, 2004, 08:32 AM
It's not a light weight by any means. The skids is fully gussetted and has several strengthening ribs in it. All the arms are made out of heavy wall tubing. For a guess I'd say the shipping weight with the box and hardware, etc. would be 75lbs????
