Challenger V10 Drag Pak (http://www.examiner.com/autos-in-detroit/breaking-mopar-to-offer-2011-v10-dodge-challenger)

Mopar or no car. :hail:

The press release lists “unique engine calibration” and considering that the car will not be street legal (it doesn’t include a VIN number, but each gets a unique serial number), there is no concern of the car getting good fuel economy or passing state emission tests.

Why would anyone want to spend $85K on a car that is set up to drag from the factory and isn't street legal? There are a ton of cars out there that will SMOKE this thing and are street legal. They might actually turn a corner too for that money. For that kind of coin, I'd be a lot more interested in buying a built car from someone that should run in the sub 10 range, something I think this pig is very unlikely to do.

I think this answers that fairly well.

When Dodge introduced the Hemi Super Stock Dart and Cuda in the late 1960s, they were super popular with races with near-stock quarter mile times in the 9 second range. If the 2011 Dodge Challenger V10 Drag Pak offers similar or more power as the Dodge Viper SRT10, this could very well be a factory 9 second car with a little practice and tuning. Also, like the 1968 and 1969 Hemi Super Stock Mopar A-Bodies, the low production volume of this super-high-performance 2011 Dodge Challenger will make it an instant collectable.

I had typed a response yesterday, but apparently didn't submit it-

The new rage is "throwback" classes and cars- nostalgia funny cars, dragsters, cacklefests, and now stock and super stock "factory" drag cars. In my opinion, it is nothing more than a way for the boomers to spend their money, reliving their youth.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to watch the nostalgia classes run- I had a Blue Max and a Barry Setzer poster on my wall as a kid.

I just don't get all the hype on the factory "stock" cars- they aren't stock, they are race cars- just like the roundy round guys. And building a limited run to meet some rule about production quantities, and then pricing them in the stratosphere seems counter productive to the "grass roots" style of most throwback classes. Besides, couldn't you buy a Viper for that price and have a street legal car?

All that said, I hope somebody brings one to Bandimere and runs it in a bracket race. Nothing would be more rewarding then to put an $85K car on the trailer with my $1,500 hooptie!
