View Full Version : Classes on how to Mat?

Anyone know of any local shops that have classes on how to make the mats for pictures? I don't want to fool with framing yet, but matting I would. And no, Michaels does not offer them.

My Dear Chester,

I have matted literally hundreds of photos. It is not very difficult. If you are interested, I could guide you through the process.

While I haven't done hundreds, I agree with pineneedle ... the ones I have done were pretty easy (although I had the right equipment to make it as easy as possible doing it in a friend's custom framing shop)

Ive tried doing it with a straight edge and razor with OK results....you can get a decent matte cutter for about 100-150 bucks that will give much better results though.

Or just buy the mattes...and its literally just attaching them to the photo. Michaels has them on sale all the time and if your a mindful shopper, you could buy a TON of mattes for what it would cost you to get matting material and a decent cutter...although, your somewhat limited to standard sizes.

That's the thing, I have some unusual crops I want to handle.
