What has always made Jeeps fun to me is that they were light weight "scouting" type vehicles. Then we get a hold of them and start adding weight until they break. :shaking:

Having built dozens of Jeeps I was determined to not build the JK into a over burden beast. The more weight you add the more weight you have to haul up and over rocks. The more weight you have to lug around town, stop , start and turn. It breaks parts on the trail, it uses more gas, tires, brakes etc.

Of course there are certain things that a Jeep just kinda needs. Like a winch. I'm not totally convinced they need a bumper. But, I am not quite ready to hack off my front frame rails.

I have been waiting for someone to come out with a light weight winch mount solution, and hoping it would hold my factory fogs too.

So when Aberle Offroad introduced their one piece cast A356-T51 aluminum bumper I was ready to get one. It weighs less than 65lbs. Only about a 20lb difference over my stock set up with tow hooks and metal frame.

Here is their website for more info. http://aberleoffroad.com/jeep.html

I took tons of pics.

All the stock stuff removed.

Forgive the cheap calipers I was too lazy to go get the good ones out. This is the winch plate.

Got it bolted up. Super easy. Fits perfect.

This is Winchline.com winch rope with the dual rope. The red section is for high heat.

Done. That was fast and easy. They make a really cool hoop that matches the lines of the hood and grill but I wanted to stay super light and am not a big fan of hoops.

Now I just need to go wash the Jeep. Hopefully it will be warm enough tomorrow.

You might be wrong on that. This bumper is only about 20lbs more than the entire stock set up. That includes the winch plate and fair lead. You had to add a steel winch plate and roller fair lead which probably made up for the 20lbs and maybe more. Also looks like you are running cable, I have rope which is a huge weight savings alone.

There is a distinct possibility that my set up is actually lighter than yours. Not to mention the approach angle and durability gain.

You're probably right. I honestly wouldn't mind it weighing a little more than it does right now. It would ride a little smoother if I had more weight on the front end.

What's on the 19th?

This was sent out to A.V.I.D, I hope you can make it! :D

There is a great opportunity to spend a couple of hours volunteering with your family for the holidays next Sat., December 19th. This Christmas dinner event has been developed in Aurora out of an incredibly successful program that currently takes place in W. Denver sponsored by Sam Sandos and his organization. For the first time, this incredibly important event is being brought to the City of Aurora, in part by Leadership Aurora. There are over 500 families who are participating in this event, so we really need your help!

The event starts at 08:00am and there are two separate pickup locations (kind of North and South):

1. Advantage Security,

13693 E Illif Ave suite 200

Aurora CO, 80014

2. Providers Resource Center

14200 E 35th place

Aurora CO, 80011

All you will need to do is stop by at 8:00 am to one of those locations and pick up roughly five-ten meal boxes and a map of addresses to drop those dinner boxes off to families who really need them for Christmas. We expect, with good weather, this will take less than two hours of your time. However, if weather is bad, we will still be delivering meals, so please come prepared.

Please shoot me an email if you are interested in participating so I can have an idea of how many will be able to assist with driving. (shackett@auroragov.org) and please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance.

That's a sweet shot. Very nice bumper too, one of the cleanest I've seen for the JKs.

Have called and emailed them and no response. Talked to HCP4x4 and they said that all they could get me was a quote on the price but can't get the product due to manufacturing problems.

As it has been told to me, they used to make the bumpers themselves, but don't have a foundry now. And have been having issues finding anyone to make them now.
