DENVER -- The Forest Service wants your opinion on what should be allowed on public lands. Should it be just hiking and biking or should all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and other vehicles be allowed to create new roads?

A group of environmentalists is raising awareness for what it says is out-of-control off-highway vehicle use in the national forest.

these 2 quotes are from the article referanced.

im not sure if 7 was dooped or if they played a part in this. for those that do not know yet . this meeting tonight had nothing at all to do with the fs. i refuse to call these groups environmentalist. these are ANTI ACCESS GROUPS. and this meeting tonight was put on by them. i serve on groups with aaron clark (referanced in the article) aaron has gone to great length to concele the fact that he is part of the wilderness society. (till today)

this was a political rally to get folks reved against bush and for the klitin/bore land grab.

i did not attend am am diein to hear from anyone that did.

you know that a position is a bad one when folks need to lie to get their point across.

AARGH! This was not a damn USFS meeting, it is the eco-nazi meeting I talked about in my post from the other day. The ****ing eco-nazis are TRYING real hard to make this look like a genuine "hearing", but it is total bullshit. Want proof? Read this from Jim Sims from Partnership for the West, its exactly why I made that post a couple days ago, but now that its over I'll go ahead and post all the info:

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO INTERESTED PARTIES THAT HAVE CONTACTS IN DENVER

Colleagues --

A number of professional protest groups that masquerade as environmental groups, led by "Campaign to Protect America's Lands," have been conducting a series of staged "public hearings" in opposition to the Bush Administration's proposed Roadless Rule over the past several weeks. The circus show is pulling into Denver this next Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in Lindsay Auditorium at the University of Denver's Sturm Hall (2000 East Asbury Street). You can see their flyer here: http://www.protectamericaslands.org/documents/hearingposterCO.pdf.

Several speakers are lined up, all of whom will bash the Administration's proposal. Denver Mayor Hickenlooper will apparently close the event, which will help draw press converge.

Following the canned presentations, the event goes open mike -- THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY. We need lots of folks to show up and speak out for 60-90 seconds and say things supporting the Administration on this. Please alert your respective memberships and colleagues to this event and join with us in speaking out. In other media markets, the Bush bashers stole all the media coverage. We should strive to at least force some balance in the coverage. There is no charge to attend ... just your valuable time.

You can see a map of the event's location here.

For the record, we have some specific concerns about the proposed Rule, and are now arguing to get it strengthened. However, the point of this event is to defend the general thrust of the Administration's proposal -- giving state and local leaders more of a say in roadless designations, rather than the "Washington de facto wilderness creation" approach of the Clinton Roadless Rule.

Here is some helpful information:

* Issue Backgrounder
* Talking Points
* Issue Timeline
* Original DOI Press Release
* Roadless Q/A

We hope to see you on Wednesday evening, Sept. 8!

I was there last night.

I heard a lot of talking but I really did not hear anyone say anything.

Even though I am not up to date on the topic at all, it was obvious that the speakers were mostly speaking from opinion and not fact. Some of them just wanted to get up and talk and did not actually have anything productive to say.

I did learn that most of the speakers like to take walks in the woods. :eek:
