So My friend is having a wedding next month and has asked me to help with the pictures, there will be some others taking pictures that have more experience and equipment then me but i want to get some reading and some recommendations...

SO,
I currently have a D50 with the kit lens and a 50mm F1.8 lens... I want to rent a flash and maybe a lens what should I get? and where can I rent near boulder/broomfield?

what books do you recommend that I read?

Not a big book fan myself so i cant really recommend any...id much rather look through wedding albums that others have taken that i find appealing and try to recreate, in my own way, what i see. Or have a more experienced photog show me what works and what doesnt. You can only learn so much from a book...i havent done a whole bunch of weddings but the few i have done have been a great success. Focus more on composition than anything else at first...other things can be fixed in post processing and will get better as you grow as a photographer, but composition is key when it comes to weddings. What i did was give the bride and groom a "homework assignment" and gave them wedding magazines and told them to go through them, cut out pictures, settings and other things they liked and to paste them into a cheapy, multipage folder. This gave me an idea on what they were looking for as far as a layout, a style and feel. In the end, they got exactly what they wanted and were thrilled with the album and prints i presented them.

As for gear, rent yourself at least a flash...get the SB800...if you can swing for a fast telephoto zoom(70-200 2.8) that also is a great addition. Youve already got a good, fast prime, so your covered for most of your fairly close lowlight stuff. If you can afford it, get some studio lighting for the portraits and group shots.
