I'm now working for the Clear Creek Ranger District, and headed up to Mt. Evans to do some opening prep work for the public opening on May 22nd.
Not as much snow as expected.

It was a lot more fun to take a family drive to the top when you could go inside the gift shop and look around, then grab a cup of hot chocolate... :D

Oh, it used to be free to drive up there as well.

MAJOR snow storm up there today. Pics are in the same link. Might not make opening by tomorrow (5/22). The Crest House at the top was closed in 1979, so that had to have been a while ago you enjoyed that hot chocolate.

The recreation around Mt. Evans is driving, fishing, and access to many hiking trails, along with allowing flat-landers to easily make it to the top of a 14er. I have nothing to do with the fee charged to head up, I'm just another government employee, but it does pay my salary, helped build the nature center at Mt. Goliath, and keeps the facilities maintained and cleaned.
