Ordered the tailgate kit from Troy last week and got it in on Saturday then after assisting Snotty with some IT work yesterday I installed it. Nice kit came with all hardware, plate supports cj hinges and good instructions.

Had to remove my rear tire carrier and bumper to get to the right spots.

But can you still use the hard top and lock the tailgate? I was under the assumption that you couldn't.

With a hard top you would have to latch from the inside Would be a pita... But if you want a hard top dont buy a wrangler:flipoff2:

I have a Jeepster with a locking hardtop and the drop tailgate.

If you want a drop tailgate, don't buy a YJ/LJ/TJ! :flipoff2:

I run a hardtop in winter and that is why i didn't just throw a cj gate on I would like to open the tailgate with the top on.

how strong is the tail gate when it is down? can you sit on it like a truck tailgate?

$170 Wow seems kinda high for 2 hinges, a latch and some metal plates. Kinda cool if your into that kinda thing. I always wanted a swing tailgate on the scrambler,

Does it help keep the tailgate from rattling...because of the tire carrier?

I like it, good install too, looks nice and clean!

That could come in handy in more ways than one. I wonder if it would clear my tire and the stinger when it's dropped? Kinda pricey but as long as it's heavy duty. There is plenty of other crap I have bought for the Jeep(that I thought I needed) that was more than this.

That is one of the huge things I miss about having a truck, the instant worktable the tailgate created. Albeit the TJ gate is teeny, I might have to look into this option more :)

The man has.

Looks good, I prefer drop down tailgates myself.

Why all the hatas, could of been cheap, but then you have to count the time to scrounge up the parts n shit. Click, ship, install, done.

Conrad,

I just recently inquired about becoming a vendor on this board.

Thanks Troy

Are the plates where the factory gate hinges used to be the same size as the hinges? Does the bottom one serve any function?

Yes same size as old hinges
bottom one serves no purpose just a blanking plate for after you get corners

I think I am going to get this kit. It would allow me to relocate my tail lights lower and intern relocate my fuel filler to the back so I can comp cut the rear.

I did end up getting this kit and finally got it installed.

Great product. Quality parts and the instructions are easy to follow.

I had the bare metal parts powder coated to match my corners. Here is what is in the kit.

Most of the parts bolt into existing holes. Two holes need drilled and tapped for the left side upper part of the hinge. Then four holes need drilled for the lower part of the hinge.

Installation picts.

Hardest part is getting the backing plate into the body to attach the lower part of the hinge. Luckily I have an 11 year old helper who's fingers fit nicely.

If you put a half twist into the cable it will bend down and in when shutting and stay out of the way of the gate closing.
