I am not a knowledgeable person when it comes to cameras, so I am hoping someone will have some advice.

My wife and 12 y/o daughter are going to start taking photography lessons. My wife has a Minolta film camera and my daughter a Nikon D40 digital. I want to look into getting a digital for my wife as well.

Here's the question, what should I be looking for to stay in a reasonable budget ($400-700) for the best possible camera? I would like to stick with Nikon if possible, just a preference.

Either another D40 or a D60...you can get used D80's for about 500 bucks with a lens.

Do you have good lenses for the Minolta?

Then you should research Sony bodies as I think they will accept your Minolta lenses.

Best Buy has the Nikon D200 for about $500 right now. Check the site, I saw it posted on another site...

I never thought about that, thanks.
