We have been turning up the burner with our fishing trips this year. Who else likes to fish out there.

So far our favorite fishing trips this year are Eleven Mile and Montgomery Res which is at the begining of the Wheeler Lake Trail head.

We had a great time last Sunday fishing the Montgomery. We wheeled Wheeler till we got to the snow drifts. Then turned around and fished the res. The Trout were flying out of it like usual. Last time we fished this spot we had better luck with Salmon Eggs off the bottom. This time it was worms off the bottom.

Anyone else have some good spots this year? I especially like places to wheel and fish.

Love to fish - However, not really a lake fisher, much prefer streams and dry fly fishing, don't even own a spinning rod anymore.. Only bad part about this time of year is most of the rivers/streams I like to fish are are running a bit high right now, still some good fishing to be had if you find the right places to wade though.

Love to fish. In fact, I'm leaving hubby at home this weekend (he's working on a big project) and going to Wyoming.

In case you're interested, there's a lake up there that has a no-limit on lake trout right now. Apparently they're getting rid of them because of the cutthroats. I've heard of some big ones coming out of there (but can't remember the name of the lake!!!).

I prefer stream fishing, but I'll take what I can get.

Interesting on the stream fishing preference. I have not fished the streams too much lately but did a lot as a kid. I do not know the name of it but we fished out of a stream a lot near a campground on the North side of I70 near Vail.

I am planning something Sunday but not sure where yet. My Jeep will be down for the count til late next week so its the car for me this time. I am thinking of driving up to Cotton Wood Lake or perhaps something between I70 and Steamboat along the highway there.

I got a new reel last week and a new rod this week. Need to put the two together and try it out.

Any suggestions in CO. I like fishing for Trout mostly.

So would this lake in WY be on the way towards Yellowstone? I am thinking of going there with the kids in mid August for a 5 day trip.

It is in fact, Yellowstone Lake! (How lame that I had to call relatives in WY to remember!).

Apparently they're also pulling some big ones out of Curt Gowdy (Crystal Lake and Granite Lake) which is where I'm headed this weekend. Its between Cheyenne and Laramie and if you got up really early you could fish there during the day and still come home at night. They have campgrounds too.

I fish trout pretty much exclusively...tasty, tasty critters those trout are!

I assume around a 2 hour drive or so each way. Might not be a bad idea. Would there be a spot along the way to get a WY fishing license.

I would stop in Cheyenne because there isn't much between there and the lakes. They have WalMart there as well as some other sporting goods places.

Non-Resident - $14 for a one day

The newspaper is reporting really good results with lures.

Here's a linky.

Been fishing a fair bit here too, mostly because of the new canoe. Keeping it local right now because I don't have time to get further out. Might try 11 mile on the 19th of this month. Been up to North and South Catamount Reserviours on Pikes Peak. North is much nicer for paddling and scenery, but they only allow artificial lures. Bait can be used in South. We've caught fish in both, with the biggest being a 16" Trout out of South. Also went to Quail Lake here in town on the 4th. Not going to be going back there. Small, smelly, and there were dead fish floating around.

As for wheeling and fishing, there are a few nice spots outside St. Elmo. Hancock Lakes, Pomeroy Lakes, and Grizzly Lake. Spent some time looking for Boss Lake off Hwy 50 west of Salida last year, but never found it. Had fun wheeling though. Alta Lakes outside of Telluride was really nice last year too.

The lakes (reservoirs) at Curt Gowdy were a bust. The fish were jumping like crazy but not biting much. However, I must say that it was a very nice camping/fishing area. If you ever get up there, be sure and make the 3 mile (very washboard-y 3 mile) trek to North Crow. It was gorgeous there and very devoid of people. There were some biggies jumping and I was kicking myself for not having a bubble and wet flies (which were back in camp because I'm a dork).

We're headed to Jefferson this Saturday, but hope to get up to Lost Lake and surrounding area in the very near future.

Tried Ridgeway res last weekend. Only caught 2 stockers (had kept one because I gut hooked it). There is currently more water in the res than I have seen in years. I'm hopeing to get up to the Mesa this weekend.

Alta Lakes outside of Telluride was really nice last year too.

We were up at Alta Lakes on Saturday. The fish weren't too active, a little feeding but not much. Didn't get a single nibble...:(

We love to fish. Went to 11 mile once this year and no one was catching anything. We are heading up to Blue Mesa here soon.

Picked up a boat at the end of 07 and love getting it out on the water.

Kinda OT I guess, but then again this is the off-topic subforum...

I've been in Virginia Beach for the past week and just got back from a 10-hour offshore fishing marathon over and around the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. It was my first saltwater outing. We weren't targeting big game fish but rather flounder. We caught 3 flounder but they were below 1inches so we couldn't keep them under the new size limits. And we caught about 8 or 10 other species in the process. The weather turned out perfect and we had a great time.

How about we post up some favorite spots we like to fish? Keep a data base of places similar to the staging and trip reports area.

We are heading up to the Deckers area this afternoon. Great place for folks in the south part of town to make a afternoon trip of it.

We had a nice time fishing. Only caught one but had several bites along the Platte.

We drove to Sedalia and then on through sugar hill to get to highway 67. Kind of a nice short cut if you are coming from the Highlands Ranch or Castle Rock areas.

Was going to head up to Crystal between Cheyenne and Laramie, but alas my uncle had already planned to go with his co-workers to Rob Roy. He's going to scope things out there. Total failure to communicate. He and a buddy caught their limit at Crystal on Monday in just a couple of hours (got some 14's with orange power bait). After spending all week downtown, I was looking forward to getting the hell up there. Maybe next weekend.

Looks like we're going over Kenosha to the Jefferson area this weekend.
