Picked up another Marlin 917V this weekend. Just the basic wood stock heavy barrel model. I am going to shorten the stock on this one so my sons can use it when we go out PD shooting.

I'll post up picts once I shorten the stock.

You will like it. I have the synthetic sock model and it is a tack driver.

I have one already with a laminated stock and a Rifle Basix trigger. Shoots awesome. This one is going to be for my sons.

Stock has been shortened, fits both my sons great. Hopefully we will get out on some PDs soon.

Finally got the opportunity to get out on some PDs today. My 11 year old got his first kill and several more after that. All were over 100 yards.

Well even with the shortened stock my boys were having a hard time acquiring targets due to the low check weld. I looked for a solution to raise the check weld but none were high enough so I made one.

Bought some 3/16" kydex
Cut a piece to 5x10.
Heated it up with a heat gun a molded it over the comb of the stock.

Sketched a basic saddle shape and used a belt sander to sand it down to form.

Cuts some slots in it, drilled holes in the stock, and secured with some carriage bolts and knobs. The black kydex didn't really go with the walnut stock so I painted the stock with Rustoleum green textured paint, it's actually a darker green than the photos show.

The knobs are a little bigger than I wanted but I didn't like the smaller ones I could find.

My older son can now use a standard sized stock but also needs a higher check weld so I did his too.

Nice job! The green isn't to my taste but the work on the cheek weld looks great!

Nice choice on the color. Pantone reviled just days ago that Turquoise is the color of 2010, and the purple accents the stock remarkably well.

I was going to paint them black but my boys wanted green, This picture shows the color better but it is even darker in person. Besides as long as they are happy I don't care. :flipoff2:
