Why cant we bump/ delete post anymore? What if there is a price change, nobody will know if your ad is not on the first page.
I found this out when my "Moving sale" ad was deleted. I was trying to keep it on the front page because I want to get rid of the stuff before the weekend. If the ad is not on the front page the # of views plummet. Less views=less sales.

Can this policy be changed? It was bad enough that the seller has to go through the trouble of copying and deleting ad's, now the section is totally not user friendly.

Yes you can search it but if you are looking for a project and want to see what is around or for something will less than 3 digits your not going to be able to find much.

I already asked Camp about it. Here is the low down:

Nope, it should keep the section in check a lot easier. If everyone follows the rules, it should not cause any problems selling things. People that want to buy stuff check regularly so they only need to see the first page. People that need something and haven't looked in a while will scan all the adds as there won't be that many of them and with such a short add life, would expect that most adds listed are current so they should contact the seller. This also makes the section fairly short so it won't take long to look through the available pages.

By the way, there is going to be very little, if any, tolerance of people trying to circumvent the rule on this.

It has been almost impossible to sell any of my parts with this new set up. I have been having to take stuff to some of the other boards just to move some items.

Truthfully, things are going to change. Since most of you either can't follow the rules in the for sale section or are just to inconsiderate to follow them, that section is going to change. It is either going to require a mod to OK a thread before it will post or it is going to become a pay only forum. I am getting tired of people being so inconsiderate to the rule and will probably start banning people who choose not to follow the rules.

This is a FREE forum. If you really want to sell something fast, call the Denver Post or list it on Ebay. You guys are experiencing financial gain from a FREE forum.

Yeah, we also give our knowledge for free. It works both ways, if the BB is too prohibitive then everybody will go somewhere else (not that I want to).
I am not trying to not follow the rules at this point. Since being free is a big deal, I do not want something for nothing, I would pay to be able to post ad's. Can we get stars like PBB?

That is where this will probably go is to the star system. Eric is out of town right now though and not had time to set it up.

As to the comment of giving your knowledge for free,.....Eric is who pays for this site and I don't remember a whole lot of people helping him out lately. He does not make money on this, it costs him to provide it. The idea of it being free and my point is, you guys are owed nothing and are also FREE to leave at any time anyone should choose. They have nothing invested and are not out any cash.

The star thing would be cool, I would gladly fork over some duckets for the board .

Like I said, I think that may be where we go with it but, Eric is out of town. I don't think we will see anything on that for another couple of weeks. Even when he does get back, there is a bunch of other stuff he wants to mess with on the new software first. I think he plans on changing a lot of stuff, including expanding to a few new forums to break up the for sale stuff a little more as people have asked for.

I have supported this board (and will continue) and am suprised how un-technical/uninformative it has become in the last six months (begining to look more like a personal chat forum rather than a 4x4 board). I also know alot of people that have left because of the excessive rules added. I don't understand the control issues going on here lately. All of this because of a for sale section and personal feelings getting in the way? Why?

It has nothing to do with personal feelings. If people leave because they don't like the rules, that is fine. The question really becomes why they have such a problem with following them?

Several changes are coming for the Classifieds section. You may recall I gave a "sneak peek" of what the new classifieds would look like some time ago. I'll attach another image of what it may look like. This was already in place at one time, but due to issues with importing the old board I had to start from scratch and I just haven't recreated it yet.

The rules are in place to help keep the section useful and organized. Every single rule was created for a specific purpose. The classifieds are provided free of charge, yet some feel the need to abuse the privilege. To address your specific question, users repeatedly bump their ad to the top as though their ad is somehow more important than everyone else's ad. If they don't delete their old ad before creating a new one then they've just broken yet another rule and are now spamming the classifieds. Being rude is no excuse, play by the rules or post elsewhere.

The new software leaves a trace when an ad (any post really) is deleted, so those who try to circumvent the 14 day expiration rule aren't fooling anyone. All they are doing is being selfish and rude to everyone else plus wasting precious time of the moderator. This became old a long time ago and I'm finally tired of it. Two things are going to happen in addition to the expanded classifieds. Either a) all posts will be screened and approved by a moderator before they appear, b) posting in the classifieds will be restricted to contributing members only, c) possibly both a & b if necessary.

It's a service provided for free and I find it incredibly offensive to see it so rudely and repeatedly abused. One way or another, it will end.

I agree with the "b" option fully. Wouldn't "A" and "C" take alot of mod time? I have no problems supporting a board (I do several) Why don't you have a "posting subscription" (ie 20$/yr) ? Thanks for the reply.

From a time standpoint, it wouldn't be more, it would actually take less if we reviewed them before they can post for viewing. As it is now, I review all posts but, have to open multiple windows and look back and forth between them to see what is double posted and what is not.
