OK so I in the past I had a great 4 person tent for car camping. Then I upgraded to a big clunker of a tent for 10 to 12 people, so I ended up selling that 4 person tent. Then I started doing more back packing and got a pack packing tent that’s perfect for that, but got rid of that big one. Now I’m down to just the back packing one. There are so many brands out there for car camping tents then say 15 years ago or so when I had my last great 4 person one. Checking out all this tents and OMG they are so expensive just for a tent? What is the deal they all have some new secrete one of a kind not to leak and special material for 300 to 600 bucks for a 3 to 4 person tent? They better come with a happy ending and set them selves up for that much money.

Looking at just a Coleman right now found a few I like for under 100 bucks. I’ve used Coleman tents in the past with little to no problems out side of poles maybe. What all do you have/use and do you like it pros cons of what you have.
Keep in mind this is car camping pull up to site unload set up tear down load back up leave. Not having to hike this in or anything. Looking at me the GF and our two dogs for the most part.

You? Backpacking? :laughing::flipoff2:

I'd say any decent car-camping tent for under $100 or so would do you well, especially if space isn't an issue.

They usually rate tents with asian midgets so you should probably get a 6 person with you, your woman and 2 dogs.

I'm partial to kelty, they have a lifetime warranty that they actually honor. I have taken my tent to Lake mconoghnononghey and the wind there is pretty brutal. I've had my tent repaired a few times and they've exchanged my broken poles. I've looked into getting aluminum poles but they're too expensive. Kelty is in Boulder so I just drive up there. There's been a few times were I've procrastinated until the last minute getting a pole replaced or a tear fixed and they have helped me out in a bind.

I like REI's tents. They're reasonably priced IMHO.

I bought the Base Camp 6 because I like 'em big if I'm car camping. Great tent, great reviews.

It's been my experience that you get what you pay for. If you want to save a bit of coin, watch out for the next REI garage sale. I picked up a brand new $400 Marmot tent for $75.

DId you not read USED to part :flipoff2:

Yes I would go up for 4 to 8 days at a shot and loved it. Remember all that "SPACE FOOD" you made fun of me for eating out GR a few months back thats how I got hooked on it.

That and I was 35 40 lbs lighter.

I also like Kelty. I have 3 of them all with aluminum poles and they've always survived. Even survived last year at CORE for the Co4x4 rally!

My old 4 person tent was 80 big time for over 15 years ago and not one single problem with it I loved it. That and with one dog thats never camped and a new puppy I want to get used to camping I don't want them tearing up the bottom of the tent. Had a few dogs in the past that can poke a hole or scratch then tear it up a bit.

I did find my north face back packing tent on sale for over 50% off that was a great deal at the time.

My buddies and I have has great luck with the the Cabela's XPG line of tents. Not cheap but cheaper then others of the some quality. I would put mine against any Northface or the like any day and I do some pretty serious winter camping.

If you get in a pinch I'll sell you the new XPG one I got from treadlightly. It's never even been out of the bag.

I'd give it to you for whatever I paid for it. I'd have to look it up on ebay but it was ~$200

Didn't really need it but it was for a good cause and I'm a gear queer!

for car camping, I use a cheap tent I got from sears - its a 4 person tent with two storage areas that are great for the dogs. Its held up great for ~8 years now. It weighs a ton, but who cares, its the car, not you carrying it.

For car camping, I use the Motorhome. :flipoff2:

Jeep camping, I use an REI Taj 3, easy to get in/out of and sets up quick. Roomy for me or me & wife. Reason I like it is works well in all conditions, has good venting so no inside frost & gets air when you want it. Packs small so it doesn't take up the whole Jeep, (I leave that for guns/ammo/tools). :D

J - you can use mine if you want. :flipoff2:

Mack took me down to that Boulder Sports Recycler (I think that's what it was called), and they had a pretty decent selection of used tents for really good prices. I paid like $150 for mine, and come to find out it's like a $500 or $600 tent.
