Tried to post a second ago but got booted out. Hopefully this is not a duplicate.
Ran Slaughterhouse with PaleBlue_90 yesterday. The trail was fun, but there is one spot in serious need of some maintenance.
If you run the loop counter clockwise, shortly after the bottom of the long hill decent, there is a new mud bog completely blocking the trail. I sank at least 20 inches into the mud and was surprised that my locked Rubicon on 35's even made it through. My axles were buried deep under the mud but luckily plowed their way through.
Mike(?) wasn't as lucky as his ranger sank into mud over the top of his front bumper, which bashed into the ground on the far side of the bog hard enough to bend it, while the back end hung up on the ledge dropping into it. He had to be winched out.
People have already started a bypass around this spot and it is nasty - the mud and water smell bad - like cow crap. Not what you want to wade through if you get stuck.

That is not the one I'm talking about. The new mud hole is about half way between that spot and the bottom of the hill. It completely blocks the trail and is on the other side of the very small creek crossing that can be difficult in the winter. The one I'm talking about must be at least a 1/4 mile before that spot when doing the loop counter-clockwise.
BTW- The hole shown in the post above was completely dry on Sunday.

i say that ranger at the gas station as he was waiting for a tow, bent axle, bent or missing lugs and the bumper was flat. we rolled 2 jeeps and ran clockwise didn't get stuck in that hole say we ran it the other way and we both got stuck. It was fun even played in the pits off crow creek. no damage on the maiden run for her yj driven by her!
wish him lots of luck in the repairs

yep right after dave left i sheered to front wheel studs, and then limped it to loaf and jug. the axle isnt bent, i bent the centering pin in the leaf pack and twisted both of them. when i got it off the trailer it snapped that centering pin. my bumper is bent, and i need MORE trimming for my new 31's lol. i got pics and ill upload them asap. i got a pic of the mudhole that owned me. thanks for sticking around as long as you could dave. my uncle towed me home on a trailer in his liberty........

I'm sorry to hear that. You were at the end of the loop so I figured no way you would have any problem getting down that dirt road. Glad to hear you were able to get help and get your rig home.
I want to see the pictures.

That mud hole pops up every once in a while depending on the amount of moisture up there.

Last time I was up there it was bone dry... but here begins a whole new genre of threads about what is and is not off-trail.

How was the last mud hole fixed? Is it the area on the exit road where all the rocks are at? Is that all it took, was to fill it up with rocks?

Interesting. I ran this a few weeks ago in my stock Pathfinder and didn't notice it either. It must've developed real recently. I've only done the trail a few times and I can't even picture where it is based on the descriptions. That sucks, I wanted to try and do it again soon with a buddy of mine. Guess I'll have to wait until it's dry/fixed a little.

The Go4s did a small run on this our Adopt-A-Trail yesterday. Dropped probably a half ton or more of rocks in this new mud hole. It is not completely filled in, but is much better now, and people should no longer feel the need to drive on the illegal bypass. Doing the maintainence to keep the trail open.....
On a side note, the Forest Service is putting a new gate in on Crow gulch road just past the end of the Slaughterhouse loop. They will then doze and rebuild the road beyond there where it has become severely washed out, post and cable off the mud pit area (re-seeding the area), and reopen the road. This is a much better alternative than simply closing the new gate forever (losing access to the whole lower part of Crow Gulch), which was the other option.
Access to the main Slaughterhouse loop from either direction will not be affected during the above project.
