Kayaykers on the Platte?

I know over near REI in Confluence park there is a kayak course for the urbanites to practice in.

Any clue if there are better times than others to find folks out there playing? I was hoping to practice some photo stuff without having to drive up to the mtns. but so far everytime I head down there its just water.

Any place not too far out of Denver that I can find kayakers or when might those urbanites be out on the Platte?
