I was talking about British bikes a while ago, and I've been searching around a bit. My pop's came across this at a garage sale near his house in Chicago, it's from an older fella who has had it for decades.

1971 BSA Lightning, all original, #'s matching w/ 5500 miles on it. Hopefully I'll be picking it up if everything works out. What the guy is asking seems like a steal under 3 g's, and has been trying to sell it for a while. I'm offering him $2500 cash, as long as every thing passes my dad's inspection. I hate buying things w. out looking at them myself, but he's into bikes, has harleys and knows what to look for.

Here are some pics.

Nice find, but it sure looks like the 550cc in that frame.

Huh, my pop's hasn't given me the vins from them said he thought was the A65 code I think, that would be an issue if it's a 550.

the pics may just make it look that way, hard to tell,, definitely run the numbers tho, and make sure they match from frame and engine, colorado is a hassle if things dont match, I went thru hell with an old triumph I had over numbers..

Cool man, I'll make sure they match up. Also looking at the bike and then some stock photos, it looks like the bars are different then stock.

Which is ok, I'd like to switch them out to cafe style low bars anyway.

I've never ridden a bike w/ a right foot shift though, could be interesting.

You'll probably be on a first name basis with the guys at Isles Motorcycles in Wheat Ridge. They're the local Brit Bike shop. Lots of guys in the Triumph club who own old Triumphs get their parts and service there.
