I keep hearing/reading stories of folks logging anywhere from 94-104mpg on their small bikes; weather they be dual sports or 250CC Rebels. Can anyone confirm these seemingly "Tall Tales"??

I am considering one for my daily commute (35miles - No highway) top speed of 55 for 7 miles, otherwise it's 35-45mph. I weigh 240#'s. I don't expect to go fast. This would be a point A to B bike. I'm waiting to buy my 919 some other time in the future.

Thanks for the input

A friend of mine has a newer Ninja 250 and he gets 70ish quite regularly and he rides it pretty damn hard...i have doubts that a 250 anything is going to get much better than that.

Now those little 50s and such scooters get 90-100 MPG any day of the week.

There was a test in MCN a few years ago where they looked at a lot of little dual-sport bikes in the 200-250cc range. I think the Yamaha TW200 was one of the best at around 80mpg. You may have seen these around, they're very funky looking with really fat tires, especially on the rear (I think it's actually a 14" wheel so that gives you some idea of how fat that tire really is!)

I think 70-80 is entirely possible with a 250cc class machine but above that I'd be somewhat skeptical. The Yamaha XT225 actually has a 6 speed transmission which in theory should make it even better as a commuter.

I saw 65-75mpg with my Ninja 250...riding like a maniac on I-70 (avg speed 80-90mph).

I just recalculated the MPG on my 500. The warm weather seems to help. I now get 74 MPG on the Buell.
