So I am interested in buying a bike possibly tomorrow, the problem is that it was previously stolen and the vin was scratched off the frame but not off the motor or swing arm, so it was sold at an auto auction as a parts bike and has no title. My question then is how hard would it be for me to get a title for it and what would I need? Is it even worth the effort because I can get it for a really good price, and I would like to buy it but if I'm gonna be denied a title I will have to forget it thanks

Are there alternatives like a salvage title or anything like that? I've got some time to go through the process next week, just would like to know the steps and what I might need

not that I am aware of. I know with the bond title you have to have a dealer appraisal, and jump thru hoops to get everything, then vin inspections from the state police etc etc etc. best thing to do is call state patrol and ask them, its been many years since I tried to do one, maybe its easier now. good luck with it..

So the state patrol is closed on the weekends, but dmv.org under Colorado says that titling a bike is the same process as titling a car, all I would need is a VIN inspection and a bill of sale, so my next question is will I be ok on the VIN inspection just having motor and swing arm VIN's with a scratched off frame, provided it doesn't come up negative on the inspection?
