Water access laws?

Does anyone know if there are any laws about where you can use a canoe? I know most of the bigger and more accessable lakes have designated lauch ramps, but is there any reason I shouldn't four wheel up to a remote lake use a canoe in it? Something like Hancock Lake, or Alta lakes?

In most cases I have found you can launch a canoe in most lakes unless posted. However in a lot of cases you can not use a motor. This rule is hit and miss. Some say no gas motors and electric is ok. When we come up to a lake that we feel is in question we just leave the motor in the Jeep. If the lake does not allow anykind of water craft it is typically posted with a sign. I know assume = ASS U ME so use your head and wits.
