I filled the van up today and my gas card stopped me at $100 bucks @$3.89 a gallon. I drive average 50-80 miles a day. So the company is spending 17-28 dollars a day on me alone times that by 190 techs for just the north metro/boulder(boulder techs fill up a lot more than I do). I put in and average of $25 per day x 190= $4750per day

Well, first off, that miles per dollar calculator looks ONLY at the cost of gas. There are a lot more costs than that involved in driving, let alone commuting. There is wear and tear on the vehicle, periodic maintenance, possibly the cost of parking, and so on.
Having said that, my best mileage vehicle (and the one I drive most days) has a gas cost of 7.57 MP$. With my commute of slightly under 15 miles each way, that works out to just under $4 per day.

400-700 dollars a month, I dont look at the commute, I look at ALL of my driving, since I can go to one of three places for work. Evans/Federal, I-25/58ish or South C. Springs.
Edit: To keep it in perspective. This is in my 2003 Toyota Tundra, 4.7 V8, TRD Supercharged (I only can run premium)

Worse Case

$0 :D (no commute)
But that's going to be changing before too long. :(
If I was still doing my last commute (112 miles round trip), at $3.90 a gallon, getting about 52 MPG, my MP$ would be 13.33, costing me $8.40 a day just in gas. If I had a 10-mile commute, my gas would be costing me 75? a day.

Well with your vehicles getting lighter everyday with the rust falling off you should be getting better gas mileage than that. :D
My truck to my main job cost about $6 round trip. I usually make 2 trips a day (1 round trip to get there & back & 1 for lunch) as it is hard for me to find somwhere that doesn't taste like McCrapolds to eat for less than $6. If I am riding the bike or the Jeep costs go down significantly.

At $3.77/gal, it costs me about $1 to go to work...probably $1.10 to come home because it's all uphill!
Costs me nearly $20 round trip to pick up my girls after school once a week if I take the Jeep. $10 if I take the van. Frack.

My commute for work is also paid for by the company. It only gets 2.09 MP$ and I do aprox 200 miles a day.
The wifes ricer gets 7.97 MP$ and she may drive 13 miles a day maybe. It holds 8 gallons bone dry and she goes about two weeks between fill ups. It still costs over 30 bucks to fill that little tank.
My jeep costs a dollar a mile on fuel alone. If you calculate all the miles its been driven verse the cost of all the parts i put in it it has cost like $47 dollars a mile.:flipoff2:

I work downtown now and still live in Evergreen. My commute costs me slightly over $8/day. I say slightly because I haven't figured out the cost of shoe wear I experience each day from the half mile walk to the bus stop from my house and the 2 blocks from the civic center to my office :D
It is 29.3 miles from my house to my office. $4 each way on the bus. No way I could touch that cost driving my dually at the price of desiel and parking downtown. My dually is getting just over 18 mpg on summer fuel.

At the current gov't per diem rate of 50.5 cents/mile, mine is roughly $1.10 each way. In just fuel useage in the PSD, less than $1/day. :P

I commute about 60 miles round trip each day. I get 25-30mpg on average, commuting.
So I'm using about 2-2.4 gallons of gas, at $3.89, which equals $7.78-$9.33 per day- $8.55 per day would be the average, times 5, so $43 per week in fuel.
50 weeks per year, $2,150 in gas to get to work, or $180.00 per month.
Bumping up to a 40mpg car would reduce my cost to $1,460 per year.
45mpg would get me to $1,300 per year.
