Got my new wheeling rig...

'87 Ranger 4x4, 4 banger. It's a little beat up, and has no back window. Which, btw, is a BAD thing if there is sand in the bed. I got sandblasted on the way home down I70. Tailgate doesn't open(it's a bit bashed in) either.

I was told it burns oil, but I think it leaks oil instead, because there was a puddle under the truck when I stopped for gas. Needs a tuneup, but hey... only $300!

Now the real question... I don't really want to put glass in the back window. Can I get a plastic jeep-style window made cheaply?

Very true. I even found a $1 bill under the seat! But, I have sand in my hair, shoes, shirt, all over the inside of the truck...

I can see now having the window a good thing on a hot day. But damn does it suck when you can't put the gate down, and there is sand in the bed.

Ok, that was weird. I went out for a drive in it, and after awhile, I suddenly had an instant smoke screen behind me. I stopped, checked things out, everything seemed ok. Kept driving, then it stopped, and back to no smoke again. Dunno wtf that is...

Smoke screen sounds like a Rear main seal leak. Sometimes they like to save up the oil then puke a little bit out onto the exhaust, making an instant smoke screen until it burns off of the exhaust...

Seemed more like it was coming from inside the exhaust though, because when I was idling to look at things, I also revved the engine, and I could get a puff out the tailpipe.

The surplus store on Alameda a few blocks west of Santa Fe sells clear vinyl like in Convertible tops. You could cut it with scissors and silicone it in.
