Well the local natives are at it again or should I say still at it. Now they are determine to close off that parking area that is just around the corner from the school house. This ppl don't relise they are only causing themselfs problems. They are now going to try to build a fence in that area to stop parking that has went on many years. Bet it dont last long.

Was there sunday the 18th, the two trails that lead to IRONCLADS have been bladed they are smooth as baby FROG BUTT. The upper part of trail has a couple trees pulled across it in an attempt to stop going that way.

The play area we all know has been fenced off, not a bad thing for restoration. But the trail that runs the creek bed has also been fenced off, we couldn't have ridden it because of snow anyway. But hate to see us lose that also.

As I said in the other post you made about this, I am pretty sure they're going to relocate the staging area since the fence is going up - or something along those lines.

It isn't only about the stageing area. It is just first of the steps to close these trails period.

If they relocate the staging area, that is about creating a sustainable trail system, not closing down that trail. With a trail that see's as much use as it does in the winter and summer, I think that is an important improvement.

Think what you want but I went to a town meeting last year at ALLENSPARK. I can tell you with authority they have CLOSING THIS TRAIL as thier main objective!

I am not too familiar with the ironclads, last time I went up there we were stuck in 3 feet of snow, where is the 2nd trail to access them? I always see a fenced off trail on the south side of the ironclads, the only one I know is the really steep access on the north side.

Help fill me in...now I want to go back up there and check things out.

Subject: Bunce School Road

All,
The following email is from Glenn Patterson who has attended many of the
Boulder OHV meetings. He let us know that the private property where the
unloading area is on Bunce School Road would be getting fenced off some
time this year (it has been completed) leaving a single corridor for
continued access to the public lands. This change will impact the ATV
users the most. There is also damage to a meadow near the parking area
at the upper end of Bunce that is on private property. Please get the
word out to keep traffic on Bunce School Road.
We will be planning some projects on Bunce for this summer to help solve
these issues as well as the other areas that are being impacted along
Bunce School Road.

------------- email from Glenn -----------------
We thought you would like to know about some serious and
extensive damage from OHVs driving through a wet meadow near Bunce
School Road. The meadow is on the same property as the dirt parking
area. We're following up with the Sheriff's Office, and have put some
"private property" and "no trespassing" signs between the parking area
and the Meadow. Soon we hope to put up some wooden posts with cable at
strategic spots. You can see some photos at the web link below.

As we met OHV drivers at the dirt parking area today, we handed them
maps showing where they can park on the pullout on Highway 72, just 1.1
mile from Bunce School, unload and load vehicles there, and access Bunce
School Road via Forest Road 217. We also mentioned that the dirt
parking area has a 60-foot public (County) right of way, which they can
use to drive through to the Forest Service land beyond, but that
parking, unloading, and driving on the private property will soon not be
permitted on the private land. Most of the folks we talked with were
friendly and receptive. In light of the damage to the meadow, we hope
to move forward soon with installing post and cable along the right of way.

Any help you might wish to offer would be welcome: suggestions on how
best to handle the situation, posting notices on OHV or ATV web sites or
chat rooms letting people know of these changes, suggestions on where to
obtain cable (we think we can get hold of some stout wooden posts), or
help with the field work. We have a friend in Allenspark who saw the
damage today and offered to help install the posts with the 1-foot
shovel of his backhoe.

About 2 acres of very wet meadow and shallow ponds on private property
have been seriously torn up by vehicles. The damaged meadow is less
than 0.2 mile from the Hilltop Guild's Kelley House, and 0.1 mile from
Bunce School Road, on land owned by the Parker Family Trust (18950 Peak
to Peak).
According to the Forest Service, this meadow, which is contiguous with
similar meadow on Forest Service land, is likely to harbor an endangered
species of lily. There are two access points by which off-road vehicles
can get to the meadow: (1) from the large dirt parking area near the
beginning of Bunce School Road, which also happens to be on the same lot
owned by the Parker Family Trust, and (2) by way of Forest Road 217A,
which crosses from Forest Service land to the Parker land just upstream
of the damaged meadow.

Some photos of the damage are available on a Walgreens photo album.

Mrs. Parker has given permission for her land to be posted with signs
and fencing or barricades to discourage such OHV use.
----------------------------------
As a follow up to the email I sent you last week, we did erect a fence
on private land bordering the 60-foot county right of way for Bunce
School Road. Most of our time this weekend has been spent greeting
users, handing out refreshments, handing out maps, displaying COHVCO and
USFS brochures, showing pictures of the damage to the meadow on private
land, and talking with the users. The overwhelming majority of the road
users have been understanding and supportive. Some have donated money
(unsolicited), and one said he would volunteer to help. But if you
visit www.atvquadsquad.com and read the comments, it sounds as though
there may be a protest or even an attempt to destroy the fence soon.

Regards,
Glenn and Margie Patterson

Sounds like the A hats who don't give a flying f**k are the ones closing the trail, and tearing down a fence to block off PRIVATE property will only ensure that it will be closed for good. Most "play areas" I've seen are just a bunch of user created routs to find something challenging because they are too lazy to drive to a real trail. If people want to keep trails open, they better wise up.

The meadow damage was uncalled for and that suker should be hung from the closet tree by his ba$##. as far as the parking area it could have been fenced off leaving the main area open and all would have been happy. But the locals are looking at trying to pull the wool over your eyes that they only have your interest in mind. They have one agenda in mind that is closeing the trail to all OHV use.

On up the trail on that curve where landowner (MIKE HAGGERTY) has fence right next to the road, I have it on good authoriy that he will be moving that back to where he is off the 40ft easement that belongs to the county. He caused some grief for some of the local jeeps last year and filed a coplaint with the sheriff. All this and he is the one that was trespassing.

Endangered water LILLY my arse. look at this BOULDER COUNTY SITE pic of that area taken in spring sumer of 2006. That shallow pond/ wet meadow is drier than a POPCORN FART. can you say TREE HUGGER trying to shut down BUNCE a little at a time. What a phony excuse, yes there was a wet spot yes it was damaged, but it will dry out before long and be back to normal. many ppl used that section of trail to camp along, they didn't hurt any thing.

A law suit has been filed over this parking area and the 217A rail that was cut off. Round 1 of 3 rounds was won real easy, now just two to go. They have been documented as being in use far beyond the required 18 years. It is called ADVERSE POSSESSION, it allows continued use of that area that has been used all these years without being bothered. Till the do gooders from ALLENSPARK steeped in, they have the attitude we are here now stay out.

Stop up at ALLENSPARK check out the new PORNO GALLERY that is going to occupy the former ATV RENTAL building. The ATV GAWDS have spoken. GAWD I LOVE IT. Yeah they ran them terrible ATV's out of town, boy did they win BIG TIME. Now they don't have to drive into FT Collins for their favorite PORNO rag.

Good news ALLENSPARK will soon have a PORNO GALLERY to replace the empty building left by the ATV RENTAL that was ran out of town recently.

Friend ran BUNCE last weekend. He went down 217A to the now deadend. Just short of the wet meadow that caused all the recent crap. Sitting out in it was a jeep up to his belly, when will people ever learn?

That is some good news, porn is soooo much better than renting atvs. I wonder when the town folk will wake up and realized what they have done.

I thought adverse possession only applied when the access was needed, like if you're house was on the other side of the area that is being cut off. I'm not a lawyer though, so what do I know?

The porn thing is funny though, there's an article about it (http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2008/jun/18/shop-from-atv-to-xxx-business-owners-say-switch/). I'm guessing it's a bluff.

The bigest problem I have seen with all trailes is mostley people under 25 years old. I am not saying all people under 25 are bad there is a lot of good. It wont stop untill people are fined large amounts of money for doing stupid stuff. The I didnt no aditude is bull in most cases.

The other thing I see is they close off trailes as fast as they can, But when there is a fire they say there is no access. According to a friend that is on a hotshot crew he said it is getting harder to fight fires as they close off roads.

I've been up Bunce road a couple of times, once for fun and camping and once for shooting. I've never really been into 4x4'ing, but with the recent acquisition of a Suburban, I've thought about heading out there to try out the 4 wheel drive. It sounds like there may be some etiquette that I'm not aware of, anyone want to fill me in?

stay on the trail and stay off the private property. It is marked... I have hit this trail numerous times on the ATV and see way too many people doing stupid things.

That is all I can think of right now...
