me and a buddy are thinking about running the loop on saturday the 31st. buddy is diving a tj on 31's and both of us are open on both ends. is the loop do-able or what? neither of us have ever run this trail so i think its going to be an easy line day. any advice or what not? anyone is welcome to come, we are both kinda rookie bitches so any tips would be awesome!

I ran it on Sunday and we snow bashed the top loop so it's open. I'd say if one of you has a winch just in case then you can do it. Running saran wrap backwards would be easy. Eagle rock still had an off camber snow drift near the top that you don't want to slide off of. I may run it with you because it's a blast. Not sure of the weekend family plans yet.

Have fun, that drift was impassible, for even locked and 33" equipt rigs.

Is this trail worth the huge $$$$$$ in gas to drive all the way from Denver? I hear it's only 2.5 miles long.

not sure, only been on the trail once and didnt even make it halfway due to snow, ice, a steep hill and a broke winch cable. BUT since i couldnt finish it, i WANT to try...so i will ahve to say yes, it might be worth the drive:)

Ohh its worth it IMO. just the entrance thru Old Cripple Creek Rd is great not to mention how fun the trail is.
From Denver to the head of the trail I burned 1\4 of a tank, but then again all rigs are different.

Alright yea, so like dangerranger said i've got work on saturday. We're close to the trail thats why we really want to run it, and it seems like a nice trail since we're both inexperienced. How long ago did you run and run into the snowdrift? The weather has been really warm down here and it could be smaller.

Snow drifts started high up Eagle Rock. It's off camber and slick. Plenty of tracks thru it but we turned around to get Saran wrap in . Lower parts like saran wrap is all open. The few snow drifts were a breeze to get thru .You can spend a day with no problem out there but like I said we turned up high on Eagle rock because one my group had magazine quality show rig and would take no chances. On 31's you may not get past the turn that runs you high up on the bank on Eagle because it's covered in snow forcing you to climb the ledge. Most had to winch because it's wet and muddy from the snow.

JimhatTJ Yea dangerranger posted in the wrong spot, but now we know for sure we're going so we'll move it. It sounds like it will be a fine trail, and the weather as of now is supposed to be up in the 80's which would be great.

Eagle Rock today, and whoa! At the 'end' at the Beaver Creek end, there's a good wall of dirt that's been put up across the entire egress to the graded road there. Not sure how tall it is, but I'd say it's a good 4 ft high. I went around it 'cause I had 3 passengers and didn't want to get out of whack in this soft stuff. Any idea what the heck is going on?

Bongo Boy- whats going on? If you want to go Meet at the Home Depot in the parking lot by turning right on Southgate into the shopping area on Lake Avenue at 9 am
Also check the other thread in the staging area

Bongo Boy.
Sounds like that "pile of dirt" you drove around was put there to keep people from driving on that road.

Sounds like that "pile of dirt" you drove around was put there to keep people from driving on that road. But not likely by anyone having the authority to do so, since the official Forest Service road sign was still intact and it would be quite easy to drive over--no to mention there are no signs at either end of the trail saying it's closed. It's really quite weird. I'll email my Forest Service pals and see what they have to say.

I heard that a ranger was at that trail head and popped some guy a $500 ticket for driving over the berm. Supposedly, he should have turned around upon finding the exit closed. However, there is both a sign with a white arrow saying this is a legal trail (complete with picture of Jeep with no cross thru), and a steel sign that says no vehicles allowed.
Interestingly enough, it looks like the big dirt berm makes it possible to cross over the top of a post and cable, so I don't know whether it was put there to stop travel, or to enable it without cutting the cable.
I think this is an illegal closure!
