Memorial day?
Isn't that the traditional opening date?
Trying to find something 4x4 to do this weekend.

HorseTooth 4 Wheelers in in charge of Crystal, they usually have a cleanup day and open it. I'll see if they know when it will be opened.

If you ever have a chance, and the weather is right, sit up on the top of Crystal Mountian on the night of 4th of July. You can see fireworks from Wyoming to Loveland. Very cool.

Same can be said for Storm Mtn, from what I've heard.

family has a cabin up crystal, road is always open. As for the forest service guys, I think they get bored and close it year round just to piss people off. Go around the gate, there isn't any snow, hardly ever was all winter.

Think before you post stupid comments. It's people who do these things that give us a bad reputation. If the gates closed, stay the hell off the trail.

Seriously bad idea. Even if you have a cabin near the trail. This doesnt mean you have some sort of "right" to go on the trail. It sucks when the FS sits on their thumb when we think they should have a trail open. Best thing you can do is call them and tell them it looks like all the snow is melted... Not give them the bird and drive around the gate!

Wow, I meant go around our gate, the damn thing is all broken up anyway. How about seeking some clarification before jumping on someone? I know most think normal manners don't apply online, but if I was standing in front of you I'd wager to bet most of you would chose your words more carefully. :tisk: :tisk:
Our gate goes to the plane wreck, just don't speed on the flats please, the road was redone a few years back and that makes for some bad washboard. I'll be up there all weekend, look for a big black rubicon and a bit smaller baby poop yellow (whatever that damn factory color is) rubicon. Say hi, have a beer.

And actually it does, the forest service road goes through private land. Thus the two gates...

The OP was requesting info on the trail, not the community road. Your post suggested going around the gate to get access to the trail. I ask that you think before you post, not everyone that visits this site knows about the community road and that gate.

Plus the last time I was on the community road I got bitched out by a lady saying I was on a private road. No thanks, I'll wait until Moody is open and stay on the trails.
