So Canon's spring rebates kicked in yesterday and you can now get a 40D body for around $920 just about anywhere. The temptation is strong!!!

Take a look and see what else is out there. It's an instant rebate on bodies, kits, lenses...

wow....I need another camera body but the Mark III is many years out of my budget...hmmmm. I've been told that it's good to have two cameras with you while shooting in case one malfunctions. Plus, you can put a wide angle lens on one and a telephoto on another so you don't have to waste time changing out lenses...

Trying to convince myself to NOT get a 40D...why the hell cant Nikon get on the boat and make the D300 competitive in price??!?!

My friend (who is in the camera rental business) says the XSi is VERY comparable to the 40D and had been getting great field reviews (especially compared to the XTi which it replaces)....just throwing that out there if you're looking to save a buck.

But the XSi dont shoot 6.5 FPS...that alone is worth the extra couple hundred bucks to me.

And XSi is still a small plastic body, 40D is Prosumer grade, much better weather sealant and magnesium alloy body.
And yeah, 6.5 fps when shooting sports...killer!

Well...the XTi just went on the chopping block...if it sells I will hit the go button on the 40D...that should hold me off for a few days...cause we all know I will hit the go button anyway...

The weather features are what is selling me on the 40D. I love love love my 20D and 30D, and plan to get a 40D in October, because I am tired of q-tipping the smut out of all the nooks and crannies after shooting in windy or flat out dirty conditions.
I got the new speedlight 580ex II that goes with the 40D SO BRIGHT! And the weather seal on the foot is amazing, silly things get me so excited. Like keeping the grunge out of my cameras.

I second that! I spent several hours cleaning all my gear this weekend. It was a pigsty in there!

Im really trying NOT to go back to Canon since i have so much invested in my Nikon stuff but between the 40D's specs and its price, im having a hard time not justifying it. The D300 looks nice but the 40D seems to be getting a tiny bit better reviews not to mention is a good bit cheaper. I really want a full frame camera but cant afford one right now and the 40D fits my needs better than the D80 im shooting with now. Ive had a TON of interest with my Nikon stuff on CL but no dedicated buyers yet. If it sells before the end of the month, im gonna take the money, buy a 40D, Canons 70-200 2.8, a 50 1.4 and a speedlight and work with that for a while.

Well I *should* have the funds from selling my XTi in Paypal in the morning...that was quick!!!
Will be ordering the 40D as soon as the funds hit my account...could possibly have it by the end of the week if I spring for fast shipping...
I am thinking about the 70-200 2.8 since I have been shooting more sports recently.

Highly recommended lens. Love my 70-200 2.8IS plus you can go ghetto 400 4.0 by getting the 2.0 extender, and when shooting as bright as it was last weekend it's still fast enough and only a couple hundred bucks.
Definitely a must for sports, and SO perfectly clear. OI!

$949 shipped 2 Day UPS air...damn ya can't beat that with a stick!!! I may hold off on the 70-300 until right before the rebates end to recoup some cash from the 40 D purchase, but I am selling my XTi and all accesories for $550 so...not too much change out of my pocket :D
Fingers crossed that this buyer comes through as she said...That lens will come in handy for football season for sure!

Tiff. You will love the 40. I still can't get past the integration of everything all one one screen, my histogram, overexposure, exposure/camera settings, etc. All right in front of you overlaid on the image.
For where I am as a photographer, it's absolutely fantastic to have all of that right there in my hand so I can see what is going on in one place. All the features rock my world, but this one is my fav. You can really get in there and analyze the info and see what is going on. The integration of everything on one shot really makes my day and lets me see what is going on.
Congrats on the purchase. Seems like we need to have a 40D party sometime, as lots of us are shooting with them.

Tiffany thanks for posting this!
I did some research and found out my Dell credit card would allow me to purchase my Canon 5D! I get the rebate too and it's free shipping and handling.

None of the other SLR Canons I've shot w/ can do it 5d, 20d, 30d, DS MK 2. The info is there, but you have to flip though different screens, on the 40 everything can be overlaid over image and integrated in one place. It's not that it provides info that others don't, but how it does it. I like everything in one place. :D

Yeah I think its more it can all be on the same screen overlaying the image.
I am so damn excited!! This is an upgrade that is basically $400 out of my pocket. I ended up getting a net sale on the XTi and accessories of $565!!
Crazy!!!! It should be here on Friday so I can have it to play with over the long weekend.

For anyone upgrading to 40D or 5D...there is an additional rebate for XT, XTi and XSi owners who upgrade.
If you register your Rebel series on the Canon site you qualify for the additional rebate. You simply have to register your Rebel during the time period, not have purchased it during that time. The deal keps getting sweeter!
If you are currently a Digital Rebel (300D), Rebel XT (350D), Rebel XTi (400D), or Rebel XSi (450D) owner, register your camera at Canon USA's website (http://www.usa.canon.com).
Then register your Canon EOS 40D or 5D from now until July 19th, 2008. Fill out the form, send in your 40D/5D UPC and proof of purchase from an authorized dealer.
Canon will send you a $50 rebate for upgrading.
The 40D/5D purchase must be made between May 18th and July 19th and you must have already registered your Digital Rebel, XT, XTi, or XSi prior to July 18th to be eligible for this offer.
