So I've been trying to get the stupid M-F$%^$$# starter out of the soon to be mother in laws Ford Taurus. After pulling the two retaining bolts, one of which was a stud and not a real bolt had to beat the damn thing out with a punch. I still can't the dang thing to come out.

Theres a picture of the starter down on this page.
I should just be able to pull the damn thing straight out but it doesn't even budge. I don't know what else to try I've beat on it with a hammer for about an hour.
Anyone got any tips?

1) Make sure you've got ALL the fasteners undone & removed.
2) See if you can get a prybar into it to pop it loose.
3) If #2 fails, hook up the electrical connections & bump the ignition. Sometimes that will jar it loose.

Theres only two bolts, so I know i got all the fasteners on done. I'll see if I can't find a prybar but theres no good place to pry. I'm pretty sure I broke the electrical connection undoing that so not sure thats an option

two bolts only. it is just seized on to the bell housing. pry it loose. if you trash it who cares you're replacing it.

Gah, I'm just freaking idiot and only undid the bolt and an alignment pin. Found another bolt came right out. I hate working on cars. I have zero aptitude for it.

that's why there's people in the world called "mechanics"

Yes and I typicall hire mechanics for my own sh!t cause I'd rather have it done right. My soon to be Mother In law doesn't have any money though. She's been taking care of her father (died 6 years ago) and mother for over 10 years now + her aunt all of which are full time care. So figured I'd save the money and pull the thing didn't look hard just missed a bolt. Time to goto autozone today and get the stupid solenoid and throw the dang thing back in before I leave for moab tonight.

It might be a PITA but think of the points you're scoring with your future MIL. Those never expire and can be redeemed with either the MIL or wife. :D
