Next project on my truck: the gas gauge.

It's a '92 Ranger, and the gas gauge just decided to stop working over a year ago. When I turn the ignition on, I can see the needle twitch ever so slightly, but it says on E. So, I need to pull the bed off this thing to get to the top of the tank. Never pulled a bed before. The truck is fairly rust free (when I did the add-a-leafs, I had NO problem getting the Ubolt nuts off), so I don't think the bolts will be a major issue. But how the hell do I get the thing up off the frame? And how heavy is it going to be? I do have a garage with open rafters to work in, would this help me in lifting the bed up and off?

why not just drop the tank? as far as the bed, they are not that heavy 3 or 4 guys could pick it up off the frame.

From what I hear, it is easier to pull the bed, than to drop the tank on this truck.

Would dropping the tank be less work maybe? or just they way the tank is you have to pull the bed?

Never mind didn't post back faster than your reply.

True on most pickups. Disconnect 6 or 8 bolts and 1 or 2 electrical connectors, and 3 or 4 people can lift the bed off easily. 2 people can probably lift a Ranger bed.

Ranger it's 8 bolts. Pull the bed. We used to do that when I was working heavy line w/ Ford to beat the clock so to speak.

BTW: Put a OE (Ford) pump in it, or you will be back again doing it in a few years.

2 of us (big guys) can lift the 82 full size chevy bed. So the Ranger should not be that big of a deal.

Engine hoist if you're doing this by yourself.

As long as it doesn't have a spray in bed liner, the bed on a Ranger is simple to remove. Pull one electrical connection, 8 bolts and the filler neck and two guys can easily remove the bed.

All the bolts are from the top so I do not remember ever getting under mine when I did this but it has been a while.
