My wife and I just planted 100 of these at our place today. Anyone have any experience with them?

http://www.austree.com/index.html We put in a windbreak with a drip watering system.

They grow fast and die young.

Their growth is a direct function of water - if you water them, they grow. If you don't, they don't. They seem to live in spite of extreme neglect - it took quite a bit of work to kill one of them.

They do not like snow on their branches and leaves if you get an early or late storm - they will bend way over flat.

what kind of tree are they? a hybrid? and if so, of what?

They are a fast growing hybrid designed for arid climates like I have out east. I am not sure what it is a hybrid of.

What size were the ones you planted?

I wouldn't mind getting a couple of fast growing trees to augment my neighbor shield here at my suburbian compound.

In the ground now they are about 5' tall.
