I just got a new(to me) 87 Yamaha TW200 that needs a little work. I'm trying to source some good cheap parts.

any thoughts? local? online? Looking for seat/gas tank, little stuff...carb rebuild kit.

Here's the bike.

Try Bob's Motorcycle shop here in Longmont, off Rogers Road, hit up google, they have a ton of junked bikes/snowmobiles.

Might want to source an exhaust while you're at it there, Ben.

I'm sure the wifey is going to LOVE hearing that fire up for the first time in the garage.

thanks for the tip on Bob's :)

It has an exhaust, :flipoff2: the it curves around the other side, although it does look like it doesn't have one at the moment

the wife is already thrilled that it's sitting in the garage :D

I have a very similar bike, an '86 TT350. Bought it brand new and it still runs like a champ, although it doesn't have the torque it used to. Mine still looks fairly new too.

No help on the yards though..

Ben, is the seat broken? Or does it just need recovered?

FJBen

recovered, it's in need of some TLC thats for sure. I'll just look for some seat material I guess.

Upon searching, it appears these seem to run forever...let the mods begin...

Steeles Motorcycle Salvage off Union just west of Santa Fe in Denver is good. You pretty much have to go there and look around, though.

I've only been to Steele's, but I've heard of a place called "the DUMP", Denver Used Motorcycle Parts. Not sure if they're still around or what, you might look them up.

The DUMP is pretty small and all the parts are in boxes. 16th and Lafayette I think. I found a skidplate and throttle I needed there years ago.

If you get the seat off, let Trish have a look at it - she's really good at recovering stuff.

Cool, thanks guys...I appreciate the yards.

I need to track down some of that fabric. It looks like it would be pretty easy to re-cover those seats.

Now I just gotta figure out why I have no spark :D

You can get some gripper type fabric at a place like Hobby Lobby. It is the same stuff used on pajama feet. Pretty cheap way to recover a seat.

As far as I know, the DUMP is outta business.

I worked at the Honda Yamaha dealership when those first came out. Last time I've seen one of those the fat tire bikes..

There are no such things as carb rebuild kits. Just clean out the jets and drill out the air mixture plug on the bottom of the carb so you can pull that jet and get the crud out of there. PM me if you need any help.

The jet below is the one most people never got to.

You want to get rid of #32, drill a 1/8 hole just through the thin aluminum plug and then screw in a wood screw. Grab the screw with a set of needle nose pliers and tap up pulling the plug out. Then carefully remove the screw, spring, washer and o-ring, be careful not to loose anything.

Here is a breakdown of the carb.

Great info! I have the FSM but the pics aren't the best. That will help out a ton.

Right now I get no spark. The starter won't turn over either unless I "jump" the starter relay. I"m guessing it's the neutral-sensor wreaking havoc at the moment.

You can pay an upholstery shop to recover the seat for you. It's cheap and worth the hassle. I recover my own, but that's because I buy the premade seats. I've never worked with flat vinyl. You'll get tucks and wrinkles if you do it yourself. Get someone who knows how and it will look great--probably cost less than $30.

If you find out what carb is on it, you can order the bits and pieces individually from Carb Parts Warehouse.

Good luck with the electrical bugs. Not my favorite thing.

I will warn you though--mods for that are going to be mostly DIY. You may find it's not worth it, might be easier to just clean it up and putt around on it.

One more thing, the only part you may need would be #25, the needle and seat.
That's the only "Wearable" item in a carb. When you take it apart the needle should have a smooth angle and not have a ridge in it, it it does the carb will probably overflow fuel.

The green area is where I'm referring to.

My wife is good with fabric and such, maybe she can re-do it, but for cheap, I'll just let someone else hassle with it :D The upholstry place in town said $60.

The carb did overfill, but it's possible the floats were stuck as it's been sitting. I"ll pull it apart and see whats up.

It looks like I"m missing a "Starting Circuit Cutoff Relay" so that sounds somewhat important to starting...either that, or they just tried to by-pass all the kickstand/clutch, neutral switches.

It's fun messing with bikes again, got my first one in Kindergarten, had them my whole life until about 8 years ago right before I got married. It's time again for sure :D

I'm getting the "Baja Design" LED tail-light setup. and a few other parts.

The wires that go to the clutch and kickstand are usually just male and female and are easily plugged into each other to bypass those safe modes.

THought I'd update the post. Today is the first day I rode it to work. Thanks to oldbluecj7 & Mrs. Oldbluecj7 for recovering the seat, (I gave them the wrong fabric) but they did awesome

87 TW200 = Free
Plates/title = $26.00
Insurance = $1.67/month
80+ MPG = PRICELESS :D

87 t-dub, roost guards, IMI style larger footpegs, baja designs rear LED taillight/license plate, Pro-grip 791 grips, junkyard bar risers, new oil, plug, filter, recovered seat, cleaned the carb out.

I still need to install my fork seals and Seal Savers. It could use a new gas tank and muffler, as the baffle was cut out of mine :eek:

there is ray's motorcycle in ft. collins. his junkyard is not that big and has been outside in the weather for years but ray is a cool ass guy that knows more about bikes than anyone Ive ever talked to. the shop is on drake about 3 blocks west of taft hill and behind all the RV's.

I so want something like that!

I have a street bike but a dirt bike to cruise around in would be a lot of fun...
