Me and a few buds are heading out to Moab this week and I would like a general idea where Coyote Canyon and Pickle is. I know Coyote is next to Area BFE, but I could use some exact directions. All I know about Pickle is that it is north of Moab. Thanks.

You will definitley need coordinates to find the Pickle. It is not that difficult to find, once you know whwre it is, but hard to describe the directions to it. Have fun!

Coyote Canyon starts at the bridge on the left and runs up the creek bottom to lower heldorado. It's the first bridge you com eto on the way up the dirt road to Area BFE.

Coyote Ugly starts at the bridge too. It runs up another narrow wash and horseshoes around to dump you back into Coyote Canyon. It's the 4++ trail and is loads of fun!

Wrong Pickle... They list one in Co near Blackhawk.

The one in Moab is north of town, north of Dubinky well road if I remember correctly. Road to it has lots of washes and stuff, and I think is the exit for ????? 3D maybe?

coyote ugly was opened up back in '03 as an offshoot of coyote canyon.

when you are sitting at the bridge on the dirt rd to the entrance of Area BFE, look up the hillside to the left and you will see a narrow wash heading up the hill side. This is coyote ugly. It starts at the bridge and loops around the backside of the hill, and then drops back down to the wash (coyote canyon).

It's a great little trail, about 1 mile long and offers a load of fun. I would not go in there unless you have some healthy hardware and don't mind some rock rubbing.

there is not a lot of info out there on this trail because it's not well known. If you remember the 'incident' in 2003 that involve a group of 4 wheelers and the land owners who closed lower heldorado, well this trail was part of that event.

so what you guys are calling coyote canyon is what i've known as strike ravine for years(goes up the creek bed to upper hell right?), and coyote ugly is what i thought coyote canyon was, i've walked this twice now, and i've got to get in there and try it out this fall

It is called Coyote, not Coyote Ugly. Scott from Rockstomper and I were the 7th and 8th vehicles to run it, respectively. We were the first group in on day two and we were leading. There were six vehicles that ran it on day one of its existance.

I was also there during the whole land owner situation as it was with a group that was in front of us, the second year it was open. I was one of the people that was talking to the cops and saw the whole thing. They took my statement but, never called me for a follow up.

good for you.

When Nancy told me about the trail she referred to it as Coyote Ugly. Maybe she was wrong in the name, but a recent guide book I have shows Coyote canyon running in the wash bottom up to the interestion with Strike Ravine, so the name makes sense.

Anyways, it's a great trail to run if anyone wants something quick and challenging.

That landowner dispute was a disaster and really showed the lack of moral value those people have and will demonstrate in order to get what they want.
