Here's a link to Stay the Trail and Four Mile Travel Management Area (area east of BV). This is a ton of BLM and USFS land in this area and looks like a decent place to camp for free. Anybody ever camp in this area? I'm specifcally looking at the McGee Gulch (CR 315), Shields Gulch (CR 305), Sevenmile Creek area or Bald Mtn. Gulch (CR 300) / Arnold Gulch (CR 300A) areas??? Are there any bigger camp sites to host a group of 20-30-40 rigs?
I'm looking to be close to the Hwy for easy access before and after the trail runs but still be out in the forrest with some nice campsites and not much traffic.

Those places will work, however there is no water in McGee, Shields. Four Mile area east of those has a creek, and Bald Mtn. and Arnold Gulch also don't have water. There is a campground at Ruby Mtn. with water and rest rooms.

I have camped off 315 and 305 a lot and there are tons of good camping areas, most of them even have an established fire pit. I only know of 2 areas that have enough space to acomdate a group that big though and they are both on 315.
Oh yeah and is this a Toyota thing or are us jeeps good enough to come along? :flipoff2:

Cool, thanks for the heads up about the water and creeks.

Right on, that's what I wanted to hear. Do you mind sharing the areas that could accommodate that large of a group. Thanks for the info.
Yeah, it's going to be a Toyota thing, the annual Colorado 4Runner Jamboree. :flipoff2:
But your always welcome to run with us  (minus that weekend :flipoff2: )

Headed south on 285, hang a right on 315 and follow it out a couple miles and just watch the sides of the roads, you can't miss them, there is 1 on the left and 1 on the right

Thanks again! I'll have to go spot the area later this summer but wanted an idea of what was campable and what wasn't before I showed up.

Google Earth rocks, nothing like spotting your camping site 2 hours away from your bedroom

Google Maps wasn't quite working correctly yesterday but it seems to be working great this morning in the BV area.
How's the camping and terrain around CR 375C or 375A? Seems like there is a nice little stream and some great area around there.
The area around 315 and 305 doesn't appear to be very thick forest. What's the terrain like JeepWheeling02? The areas around 309A look like very thick and dense forest and higher in elevation (cooler temps, great for August camping)

375a/c has some camping but I dont remember ever seeing an area big enough for the group you need. 315 isnt very "thick", but there are some trees. It gets very windy up there though. And it is noticeable. It is a bit higher and maintains cooler temps very well.
