So, someone I know told me there is going to be a party, and "camping" as he put it up in left hand on saturday (7/24), this would include a keg... These people dont do this often. I hate to do this, but we need to show people that this aint cool! I dont know what the best plan of action would be, to either let them party and take pictures and turn them into the FS, or just not take the risk and tell the FS now (right thing to do).

The kid that told me this is a cool kid, he would not do anything stupid, but his friends... I donno about them, I dont even know them.

it would be nice to take pictures and turn them in, but since we know of this now, it would be a good idea to just have the FS take care of it, or the police (Underage drinking) although they may just move to another area...

i guess call both the FS and the Sherriff. let them deal with it, since they have the authority. make the fs aware just for the wheeler's namesake. it could get potentially dangerous if you go up there and infiltrate a bunch of drunk teens... Just my $0.02

lots of folks go up there for just these reasons. under age drinking etc are not new. i run across kids up above my place all the time. i have been impressed more then let down. it seems that the word is out and folks (generally) clean up after themselfs now. it would be cool to see em take the other oute if its late at night, but as long as folks are quite an behave . camping is legal in the forest and lefthand is the forest. they need to be coutious of private property!. each case is differant. i notice that someone was up there in the last week-ish and shootin fireworks in the woods when it was dry. thatll get em shot.

if you know the guy ,set him straight and make him responsable for his friends

Thats what I will do, I will tell this kid to clean up... he is a wheeler as well, and if I hear about any mess, I will make him come with me to clean it up.

Yeah Zach as much as i hate people doing stupid stuff up there it is the forest and perfectly legal to camp. just explain to him the situation of that up there. and tell him if he wants a bunch of wheelers after him to do something stupid. You know zach learning is half the battle.

just wonderin...since when going into the forest and drinking a bad thing?

Now what comes of it could be bad, but the act in and of itself is nothing new and something that I have done numerous times, and will likely continue to do. Id rather have a bunch of kids go out to the forest and drink a butt load, than to do it and some unsuspecting parents house where kids need to get into their cars and go home.

well, they were mentioned to be underage, which i was guilty of in my day, but that doesnt make it right. and as is evidenced by the garbage up in lefthand specifically, just because they are in the woods doesnt mean they wont drive home, and regularly do it seems. the night time crownd out there has been identified as more likely damage do-ers, and we need to be alert in the area for these types of actions. that was my only oncern, if they are drinking partying and having fun, as well as being responsible while doing it then tally-forth. but this seems to rarely be the case, especially with the younger more in-experienced partakers. Just my $0.02. :bounce4:

Yeah there is nothing wrong with it, though it changes a little since they will be camping at such a vital place. they might not drive home the off a cliff is just as bad.

Wait this was this weekend, anymore on this. gosh i have to get back in the groove

Just curious. I grew up in America??? and still living in the USA?? Since when is going out camping and having a keg of beer and friends together a bad thing?? If you drink and drive you break the law. If you drink and camp you don't???

Thats part of the problem. To many wana be cops out to controll someone else when they can't even controll themselves. Sad to read this thread.

I hope the kids have or had a good time and cleaned up after themselves like any normal outdoors person would.

I think you missed the point of the thread. This trail is close to being closed due to all the trash as well as other problems. I'm pretty sure that was the focus. Most of the problems seem to be the high school crowd from what I've read, so, a concerned post.

ya dood read the post, we never said that at all, if you did live in america you would know all the land rights issues that are being discussed and trail being closed for irresponsible behavior. that irresponsible behavior and the danger of closure in this system in particular are the focus of this thread. :bounce4:

As long as they clean up after them selves witch no one seems to do up there any more. I was up there a few weeks ago with Crash and the crew cleaning up and I do see a problem with bringing a keg up there cause there is one already there all shot full of #$@! holes. Its crap like that causing us to loose something every one can enjoy. I would like it to be around for my daughter to enjoy tattooing her truck on when shes old enough.

I would agree that lefthand has gotten a wee bit out of control. The one thing most of you don't understand is that Lefthand has been a trash heap for more the 25 years. This isn't something that just happened because one group of kids wanted to go out and blow some steam. I have cleaned up trash bags full of spend ammo shells, diapers, tampons, broken glass, 4x4 parts of all kinds, tires, etc.etc. up Lefthand and several other trials in the area that have been shut down now. Yes! to many people love the area to death! One reason I don't wheel there any longer. I grew up in Boulder and hate to seeing what that area has become.

The original message was towards being a NARK on some local kids. this would include a keg... These people don't do this often. I hate to do this, but we need to show people that this aint cool!.

My complaint is why do we or anyone need to pick on some kids up there as long as they clean up their mess? what isnt cool is trying to controll someone else. Would you like some asshat coming up to your camp if you were out with friends enjoying a weekend and trying to push his personal agenda onto your weekend with your friends? That as bad as some asshat camping right on top of you when there is a whole big forest out there with miles of places to camp other then right next to me. Maybe I am just a local who isn't from someplace else and think this thread was about some ones needing to control others fun without real cause to do so. He said himself the kid was a good kid. I know I teach my children to respect nature and leave it better then you found it if possible. Most of the locals I know also do that. If you see trash pick it up. But it isn't just some kids that make the mess up in Lefthand Canyon. We have a huge group of outdoor lovers who think being Hyduke from the monkey wrench gang and throwing the beer cans or bottles out the window makes them cool. I would even bet that allot of those same people only live here part of the year. they seem to have a typical attitude of that they paid enough already to be in Colorado. Who cares if they throw their trash out the window( it still doesn't look as bad as some of the places they live in right?). Sorry if I seem to go on, I think in all honesty he thought he was doing a good thing. Just in a bad way.

Not to seem like Im picking at you or any one else here but I am a CO. native and I have traveled a good deal and no matter weather I have felt " like Ive paid enough" or " its not my state so who gives a @#$@" its a matter of respect and pride. I know that growing up even tho alot of my family think that camping and all that evolves around a stinking holiday in, if I were to so much as leave a pop can tab laying behind I would have gotton my @$$ beat and all of my friends and family were taught the same way no matter how city they were. And yes I am proud to day that I have installed the same "beliefes" in my daughter ( not saying I would beat her but she knows she wouldnt hear the end of it ) I just dont under stand why ANY ONE no matter what type of back ground would feel that its all right to trash and discrace something as beautiful as what we have here, or any where for that matter. Yes the cities are trashed and that isnt right but damn it to let it happen to something as beautiful, fragil and inspiring as mother nature is just down right discusting, to me there are only a very VERY few things worse then this like molesting a child and abusing a woman. I just cant believe that there are people out there that didnt teach this to there children. I think that if they are caught that they should get MAX penelty for it. I personally will turn in ANY ONE that I catch doing this horrible act and I do mean any one. Call me a nark if you will but that is one time I will gladly hold that title.:bounce3: Dont ruin what precious and fragil beauty we have left..... PLEASE!!!!!! If nothing else think of our children. Dont they deserve to enjoy what little bit we have left?
