Part of my new years resolution was to quit smoking before i moved back to CA as part of my whole "role model dad" thing im gonna be taking on...well, its 2 weeks almost to the day till i leave and its its been exactly a week to the day since i quit smoking, cold turkey and im going INSANE!!! I figure with all the guns in my house, something bad might happen... :flipoff2:

Seriously...ive tried gum, hard candy and a couple other things and nothin just seems to want to kill the craving. Tips...tricks...idears to make this manageable???

Go for a run. Run until you puke. Then think about how much easier running will be when your lungs work again.

Search for a similar thread by OldBlueCJ7 when he quit - you basically have 2 more weeks of bad cravings and then you are in the clear. I bet your first 2 weeks in your new destination will still be tempting, but stick with alternate stress abatement activities.

I'm a fan of exercise, but it isnt everyone's ticket.

Drink more coffee?

Cant...its bad for the kidney stones...same with the sun flower seeds...

Id try the running thing, but i only run to save my life...or to get a piece of ass maybe... :D

Play video games. Dont drink caffeine. Working out will really help reduce the stress.

yeah, where is your submission for this week's POTW? Seriously I was thinking about telling you to go take more pics too, but I was worried you would find yourself shooting other smokers. :D You don't need that kind of temptation!

Grapefruit juice.

It also will help you grow a stone the size of a large pearl in your left kidney. When polished and set into a ring that sells on eBay, it will also really pay you back.

I mean, once you pass it.

Ok gotta run, more good ideas later.

go piss off some pitbulls, let em loose, and run for your life. as they begin to gnaw your facial features off, think about the fact that if you werent a smoker you may have escaped. :flipoff2:

Ignore al24. He's right, but not in a good way.

Just win.

And for all those who say the craving goes away... October 23, 1993 was a long time ago. How much longer before I can pass a place that sells snuff without an internal struggle?

If you need someone to hold on to your guns for a while let me know. Would be happy to help out in that area. :D

Sorry don't have any words of advice, but keep at it. No smokee = longer healthier life. Heard it said once for everyday you don't smoke you gain an hour or something of life.

Oh if you don't want to run the take that bike out & run a canyon.

When my dad quit he used suckers, it was damn hard to find him without one there for awhile.

It was funny, he would only smoke in the garage. So now that he quit Ill see him get up, put on a jacket and go in to the garage and then walk back in 4 seconds later once he realized what he was doing. It was such a habit for him that he couldn't help it I guess.

I've heard that packing a mason jar full of used butts and Carry that around with you (how you get those used butts is totally up to you...) Then when you feel the urge, pull that baby out and take a deep whiff. It might not curbe the craving bit it WILL kill the desire to follow through. ;)

If I ever had a kid (won't) I'd have them smoke a Marlborough red till they puke. They'll never touch it again.

At least I didn't.... Then again drinking a bottle of vodka didn't stop me from drinking...

This does not work. Ask my daughter about it. She puked twice and she still smokes but gets caught all the time. Damn teenagers.

did kim quit? cause if so, thats another incentive to say smokeless besides gavin. If she didn't quit, why are you trying to be a good dad role model? she's da mommy....

Here's the thing: you have to WANT to quit - really want it - if you want to be successful. You have to reach the point where you don't enjoy smoking, the point where you don't like the way cigarettes smell or taste.

When I had a craving, I would remind myself of how bad they smell and taste. My mantra in those days was, "I AM a non-smoker!"

However, I will also say that there were a handful of times when I did give in to the urge. I'm not sure that I took more than one drag before I put the damned things out because I *was* reminded that they taste and smell terrible and that it wasn't something that I enjoyed.

That said -- I quit smoking five years ago and I will still have a craving once in a while. They're always out of the blue and they leave me wondering, "Where did THAT come from?" because I really can't stand cigarettes now and wouldn't dream of lighting one.

Addictions are interesting, and overcoming addictions are really personal triumphs... what works for one person may not work for someone else.

Good luck to you!

She quit a while ago...before i did anyways. But shes got alot more willpower than muah!

Im at the point to where cigarettes and cigarette smoke smells totally revolting and makes me want to hurl...but the nicotine craving just isnt going away that easy.

Ive always smoked on and off for the last 6 or 7 years...more so becoming a dedicated, everyday smoker the last 3 or so. Almost as hard as giving up soda!! lol

Hope you are still haning in there.

Things that helped me when I quit was as some said, workout. Run, pushups, situps.

Then also anytime you have the feeling and you can. Take a shower. it helps by washing away the bad oils that cause a smell that give you the cravings (something like that) but it does help. It did me and others I know that quit.

I would be willing to bet that Cigars are out for you too. I have not been able to smoke a good cigar since I quit smoking.

While I know this was a joke... DON'T TAKE UP CHEWING. It is harder to quit than Meth. I quit smoking with no problem, but not chewing is a real pain.

Congratulations!

Try the suckers. See's Candy has some excellent ones- the cafe latte are SO good! And the patch might help you right now; you don't have to stay with it forever.

My Dad died from smoking/lung cancer. He went from 190 to 130 in three months...it was horrible. I was raised by smokers, so I smoked too- but I quit cold turkey watching what he went through.

I sympathize with you, quitting is one of the hardest things a person can do. But you can do it and your children will appreciate having a Dad around. Guilt can be a good motivator :D

Hang in there!
