WRECKED A340-600 at TULOUSE FRANCE

These are pictures of the wreck of a brand new A340-600, in November
2007, that had never flown. Brand spanking new right out of the hanger,
without a single hour of air time. Enter the Arab flight crew. Thank the
French and their Arab friends for this bit of 'comedy of errors'.

Nine employees of the Arab airline were in the aircraft, but not one
employee from French Airbus was present. The Arabs taxied out to the
run-up area. Then they took all four engines to takeoff power with virtually
an empty aircraft. This was their first mistake as they obviously didn't read
the run-up manuals. They had no clue just how light an empty air bus
really is.

No chocks were set, not that it would have mattered at that power setting.
The brakes will not hold it back at full power anyway. As it turns out, the
takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because they had all
4 engines at full power. The aircraft computers thought they were trying to
takeoff but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc, etc). Then
one of these brain surgeons decided to pull the 'Ground Sense' circuit
breaker to silence the alarms. This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the
air.

That was their last mistake. As soon as they did that, the computers
automaticlly released all the brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward.
The poor bastards had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots
can't land with the brakes on. There was no time to stop and no one smart
enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting. So the
rest is as you see it below. Arabs, don't you just love 'em..............

Of Note: No one is talking and it didn't make the main stream media so who knows if there were
survivors. Then again who really cares, some gene pools need to be thinned out anyway.

[Jeff Spicoli] Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. [/Jeff Spicoli]

You can just feel the compassion... There were no fatalities, it was just an expensive day at the Airbus factory.

Airbus Statement:

TOULOUSE:
INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT AT AIRBUS FACILITY \

AIRBUS press release #1
Issued at 15 November 2007, 20:15

Accident at Saint-Martin Airbus site

Toulouse: Airbus deeply regrets to confirm that an accident occurred at its Saint-Martin site in Toulouse this afternoon.

The accident occurred at 5:00 pm local time, when engine-run-ups were being carried out on an A340-600, MSN 856, which was due to be delivered to Etihad in the coming days.

There were nine persons on board out of them five people sustained injuries. There are no fatalities.

At this time, recovery operations are still in progress and Airbus staff is working closely with the emergency services and local authorities at the site.

Airbus expresses its sympathy to the families and friends of the persons concerned.

Airbus will provide the full support to the official investigation authorities in France.

I did have to get the Airbus press release off a an airline site, Airbus isn't showing it on their page;

No Etihad Airways staff were involved in the incident.

This happened some time ago. There are some Airbus test pilots who post on another forum I'm on. Here's the thread I started over there:

A similar bogus email about the accident that started this post showed up over there as well. It's pretty much bunk.

Douggo (http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/member.php?u=1755)[/B]]I do hope all involve recover fully, but I must add that if they'd only used a conveyor that would match the plane's speed, none of this would have happened. :lmfao:

Believe it or not I tried to find if it was true or not before I posted it. Just
didn't look in the right places, obviously. It is bunk--not an Arab screwup--
a FRENCH screwup:

Toulouse A340 throttles not idled until 2s before wall collision

David Kaminski-Morrow, London (21Nov07, 15:25 GMT, 346 words)

Flight-recorder information from the Airbus A340-600 involved in the Toulouse ground-
test accident last week shows that the aircraft?s engines were not retarded to idle until
two seconds before the jet struck its test-pen wall.

The aircraft, which had been performing an engine and brake test, was travelling at
around 30kt (55km/h) at the time of impact.

French investigators have determined that the A340-600, which was undergoing pre-
delivery checks, was being held at standstill with the parking brake on and all four Rolls-
Royce Trent 500 powerplants running with a relatively high engine pressure ratio of
1.24-1.26.

Wheel chocks were not inserted under the aircraft at the time of the 15 November
accident.

In an information telex to operators Airbus states that high-thrust engine ground runs
are normally only performed on one powerplant at a time, with the corresponding
engine on the opposite wing running at limited thrust to counterbalance. It adds that
wheel chocks should be installed during such tests.

While the parking brake is set, the A340?s alternate brake system provides the brake
pressure. This pressure was normal during the Toulouse A340?s engine run.

Investigation agency Bureau d?Enquetes et d?Analyses states that the aircraft, for as-yet
undetermined reasons, began to move forward after the engines had been running for
about 3min.

The Airbus communication says the crew applied brake-pedal input within 1-2s of the
initial movement and switched off the parking brake; the regular braking system?s
pressure rose to its normal level.

But Airbus adds that all four engine thrust levers were only retarded to their ?idle? setting
about 2s before the aircraft collided with the wall. By that point the aircraft had been in
motion for around 11s.

?There is no evidence of any aircraft system or engine malfunction,? says Airbus vice-
president for flight safety Yannick Malinge. ?Airbus reminds all operators to strictly
adhere to [aircraft maintenance manual] procedures when performing engine ground
runs.?

Investigations are still continuing into the accident which destroyed the aircraft and
injured several of the nine personnel on board. The jet had been scheduled for delivery
to Etihad Airways today.

As soon as you see a story shaped around "those stupid <insert ethnicity here>", consider not passing it along, because it's probably not true.
