Is it antisemitism that is finally becoming really obvious? Or is he getting senile and beginning to believe that kowtowing to terrorists is the way to peace? (Personally, I think it's a bit of both.)
You know, when he stuck to doing the Habitat for Humanity thing I thought he was a pretty good ex-president. Now that he has decided that he needs to get back into politics he is turning into a real embarrassment!

He sucked as a President and he sucks as an ex-President. The man is just delusional. Thank goodness he was only elected to one term. What an embarassment.

Searching for Camp David Accords II only this time he forgot to include Israel. And he forgets that Hamas =/= Egypt.
But before someone comes in here and poopoos this little excursion as annoying but ultimately irrelevant, don't forget that the Democrat front runner for President will give us Carter-like diplomacy. We can have peace if only we negotiate with our enemies. Well of course we can. It's called surrender, geniuses! Ask them what they would have us do, then do it without resistance. That's the Obama plan for peace.

I don't know Don, the Arab/Israeli conflict has been going for a long time. I don't think the Palestinians are "the only bad people." I can sympathize with a portion of their cause. I also sympathize with a portion of Israel's cause. If no one trys to mediate this conflict it will never end. I don't see how trying to negotiate a peace is a bad thing. I imagine how I would feel if an occupying force moved into my neighborhood and took my house and put my family in a refugee camp. With no justice there is no peace.

What's your plan for peace? More war?

Well, I would say war should always be a LAST resort. If you have to sides fighting and causing unrest in a part of the world that effects the rest of the World you want to negotiate peace if possible. That means talking to both sides.

That means talking to both sides.
And therein lies the problem with what Carter is doing. He is ONLY talking to the Palestinians. He is ignoring the Israelis. What he is doing is not "mediating" and it is not "negotiating." It can most accurately be described as nothing more than kowtowing to a bunch of terrorists.
What's more, the plain fact is that the Palestinians have had lots of chances to have a homeland. They don't want one. Or, at least, they don't want one unless it includes first eliminating the nation of Israel. That ain't gonna happen!
There is never going to be peace in the middle east until the Arabs accept the fact that Israel is here to stay. They haven't done that yet. They still hold out hope that they can one day drive all of the Jews into the sea. Someone needs to squash that hope so that real mediation and negotiation can happen.

Lets get real how long has been people been fighting over this hunk of dirt? 2000? 3000? years. Until both religious faiths grow up it will not stop. Talking won't work warring well it hasn't worked. I say we need to step back and let the chips fall.

I think that a lot of people don't see the day to day lives of many Palestinians. I know I've only been exposed to a glimpse. Everytime they call for the destruction of Israel they set themselves back in terms of reaching a lasting peace. It's not like their neighbors are that concerned with Palestinian welfare. That being said, it was an easy jump for Israel to get tough on Palestinians. When enough of your innocent people are blown up you tend to lose compassion. However, if we dimiss Hamas as purely a terrorist organization we are not truly understanding the nature of the conflict. Western sensibility deferentiates between innocent and combatants...Not so much over there. Have Palestinians been treated fairly ever?

Well, depending on your point of view. Freedom fighter, resistance, patriot, revolutionary could all have been called terrorists. I don't like the word because it's way too easy to lump people into it. All we have to know is that people were labeled terrorists and then reasonable conversation ends. It treats us like we're stupid and suggests that all our gov has to do is say you are "this" and it's so.

See your point...we need a better definition of terrorist then...though I think we all pretty much know one when we see one

I gotta go with Gags on this one as well. Damn!!
That being said. I still don't believe that terrorists wil negotiate in good faith. Islamic fundementalists believe that the Judeo-Christian world are apostate. Apostates are either to convert or die.

I like calling out specific targets for specific reasons. Islamo-fascists would be a good when it's accurate. Fascism is bad for everybody.

As long as we are dependent on their oil, and they are exporting terror to our shores we have to engage them. Too bad as I'd love to ignore that piece of the world. What a fawked up region.
