I bought a KLX 300 last week and plan on using it this summer to do a bunch of backcountry exploring. I want to mount a GPS to help with navigating and mapping, and hopefully get involved with the TiGR effort: http://tiger.cohvco.org/

So I will need one that can mount to the handlebar, have some shock resistance and water resistance, and be pretty user friendly, because I am not the most techno savvy person out there.

Suggestions?

this is what we use on the quads. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=146&pID=182
we get wet and muddy, alot! i like these also because the units on the gf bike and her sons bike send me data from their units. i can find them even if they get confussed on how to use the unit. garman also has handlebar mounts for these. they are voice ativated units as well

I got my GPS mount from http://www.cycoactive.com

I use the RAM mount and it works great on my Magellan Meridian Gold.

I have a Garmin 5 and the RAM mount on my KTM 525. I have broken the ball off the RAM mount once and have issues with exposed antennas. The Garmin Rhino are very nice GPS & Radio in one but the antenna would kill it for me. The Garmin E-trax legend is a very small readable that has stood up well on several of my friends bikes. The longer travel of the front fork and the front brake cable/line is what causes my Garmin 5 with and external antenna grief (as in being torn off by the front brake hose)

I bought a Ram mount from here (http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/gallery.lasso?A=BMW&B=&C=&D=) and use it on the ATV.

This GPS Tether (http://www.gadgetjq.com/gps_tether.htm) is a good idea, IMO. Have one on the ATV's and one in the Jeep. I also use a luggage lock to lock the key ring, it won't stop a theft, but it will slow it down.

This AQUA BOX (http://www.custommounts.com/RAM_HOL_AQ1_RAM_EXTRA_LARGE_SIZE_AQUA_BOX_p/ram-hol-aq1.htm) might work for your GPS, worth a look anyway.
