Looking for trails with close camping in proximity to Gunnison. With gas prices this summer I'd like to stay relatively close.
Ones I know of are:
CR38 past hartmans rocks, goes into Saguache county.
Ohio Creek just north of town.
Paradise Divide, devils punchbowl, lead king basin, schofield pass area out of CB.
The more tree cover the better.
What else? Bauer, Oscar?

Middle Quartz creek out on the old stage road, Flat top and Red Moutain up Henckle(sp) Road. I'll think of some more

Little ways away, but I love above Tin Cup. Lots of areas to explore and you can drive up and check out the West end of the Alpine Tunnel.

Go up Gothic Road out of Crested Butte, there are lots of places to put up a tent. Eventually you will hit the Devil's Punchbowl trail.
