Hi,
I'm headed to Colorado Springs for a vacation the week of the 14th. I'm hoping to run Eagle Rock, and some other local trails. How are the trail conditions there?
Also, does anyone have any other trails they would recommend?
Thanks!
Mike

Just tried Eagle Rock yesterday and there were no tracks past the rock that you turn left at. Didn't try Saran Wrap, but there's still alot of snow up there so if you do go, expect a lot of winching. I haven't been up Rampart to see what the trails are like up that way.
COME ON SUMMERTIME :D

Dakan and Rampart Range Road are still closed as of last week. Guess there's always Mt Herman, though it's just a dirt road. I'd suggest Metberry. Some snow, but not too bad.

so it sounds like I kinda out of luck for eagle rock and saran wrap.. I'll probably give them a shot anyways.:P I'll check out the other trails mentioned too.
Any others worth taking a swing at?
Thanks again

Depending on your rig, Independance Trail System outside of Penrose.

Huh? I drive Rampart Range Road between Garden of the Gods and Woodland Park all the time. Its nasty in spots but not closed. Perhaps the section running north towards Sedalia is closed at some point, but I've seen no indication when I've turned down into Woodland Park?
Just noticed that the Rampart Range OHV area is closed. I think we're talking apples and oranges.
I did Eagle Rock in 2004 or 2005 in May and it was OK, but Saran Wrap was still a mess with snow. Those were pretty mild years for snow as I remember. I remember there was a nasty icy area on the ledge part of Eagle Rock. Looked like someone had slid off and winched themselves back onto the trail.
I went up the Captain Jack's road (FR 397 I think) around late May last year and ran into snow well before where Eagle Rock would meet up to come down, but last year was a big snow year in the Springs.
Generally speaking there is still lots of snow in the mountains right now. Its not the best time for jeeping in CO. Vacation in Moab instead.
Phantom Canyon and Shelf Road are probably open right now. Nice views of the Sangres down that way.

Yes, the northern part of Rampart that has gates is closed. By bad for not specifying.
