Denver Pyle (Uncle Jesse) used to stay with my great aunt and uncle, I got to meet him when I was a kid and Dukes was still on, that was cool. Evel Knievel, met him when I was a kid. Chris Ledoux, got to hang out with him for a bit when I worked Country Jam, Ed McCaffrey, met him and Joe Sakic at the Chop House in Denver, met Elway a few years ago at a restaurant. Met Ryan Stiles in Vegas a few years ago, he was a nice guy.
I dont really care for celebrities, but some of the sports guys have been cool to meet, and the few celebs I have met have been nice, but Ive never understood the whole worship thing that people have with them.

I've seen quite a few from living in Long beach for years along with the cover band scene.
Most memorable, Jerry Only of the Misfits (sat next to him for 4 hours on a flight) & The Minutemen's Mike Watt(actually bullshitted with him in a bar in L.A. last year)
I also see Jack Johnson on a SEMI regular basis, my brother surfs with his "network" of friends.

Almost got into a car accident w/ Andre Agassi when I lived in Vegas, does that count?
The ass-hat cut me off in his Viper and then locked up the brakes, and shocker, they worked much better than the drums on my 66 mustang! I managed to stop about 4" from his back bumper...

A friend of mine's aunt (Edie Baskin (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0059944/)) in high school was the photographer/set director who did all the photos of the celebs shown during Saturday Night Live commercial breaks. We got to hang out really backstage for the April 21st, 1990 show with Alec Baldwin (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0694554/) and then went to the cast party afterwards.
I sat next to, and repeatedly bumped elbows with, his girlfriend at the time - Kim Basinger (http://www.askmen.com/women/actress/37_kim_basinger.html). It was almost too much for an 18-year-old to take.
- mike
PS: she was even hotter in person
PPS: I made the mistake of asking Baldwin for an autograph. he was a d!ck about it.
PPPS: Dennis Miller and Jon Lovitz were getting sh*tfaced at the bar and Miller had no problem doing the "and I. am. outta. here." circle/squiggle thing on my shirt

Now I'm not usually a name dropper, but being in radio for almost 8 years, the # of people I've met in radio, tv, and movies is quite long. When my dad worked in the commercial airline biz, I met nearly every sports team east of the Mississippi over his 35 year career.

Used to live near LA, dated a girl who's sister was in the business. At the time I didnt even own a TV. I had a life back then and couldnt stand the thought of watching some TV. I was always on the move.
Anyhow said sister invited girl and I to lunch. Mimi from drew carry came along with us. I had no idea who she was, she asked some questions about me like general chit chat stuff. So I returned the questions and she said she was an actor, I was thinking to myself "great another unemployed actor" :D. She said I'm on the Drew Carry show. I replied "i'd never heard of it, dont watch TV".
She was polite but not very funny, dry british sense of humor. You'd never know the show she has an accent.

Some of the guys in Blues Traveler used to work for my dad, so Ive hung out with them on several occasions. Through them Ive met a LOT of other musicians.
I waited on Fat Joe(some Rapper) while I was in college. He was a douchebag.
I sat next to a B-class/Spice channel porn star on a flight from Atlanta to Philly once. I cant remember her name but she was hot and gave me a signed issue of CLUB INTERNATIONAL magazine with her in it..... that I didnt ask for. I guess she thought she was gonna be big-time or something.

Glenn Danzig, James Hetfield, Mike Ness, Jamey Jasta, Chuck Liddell, Vinny Stigma, got totally plastered with Biohazard in Tokyo, and best of all, I did a shot of Jager with Kerry King. Also met quite a few Av's back when I worked at Sing Sing, met lots and lots of Bronco's past and present because my buddy Steve does a bunch of AV stuff for the Donks.
Out of all of them, Jamey Jasta was probably the coolest guy to meet.

Used to drink with Bill Walton and Les Miller (DE San Diego Chargers). Back in my drinking days.
Met a number of sports figures, here at the cigar shop. Dennis Rodman hung out and smoked cigars with us, when the all-star game was in town. Kordell Stewart stops in when he's in town. Don Nelson, head coach of the Golden State Warriors and his coaching staff come into the store, to do thier game planning when they're in town.
I used to have a bunch of the old time Avs come in. Patrick Roy, Mike Ricci, Rene Corbet, and Claude Lemeiux. Corbet, brought Martin Brodeur(NJ Devils) in one time.
I was Peter Jennings, bodyguard, when he was here a couple of years ago. Also got to meet Pete Coors Sr. when Jennings interviewed him.
I met G. Gordon Liddy, in NYC during the Republican convention in 2004. Liddy was a nice guy.

Robin Williams, meet him at the Dark Horse bar in Boulder. This was when he was doing ?Mork and Mindy?. They did not film the show there and he wanted to see what Boulder was like. I was there with some friends that night. It was my turn to go get the beer. While I was at the bar waiting, this guy comes up and starts talking to me. It was Mr. Williams. We talked about Boulder, CU and Colorado in general for about 10 minutes.
I went back to the table with the beer and my friends all come down on me for taking so long to come back. I told them I was talking to Mr. Williams and they are like, yea right. Well about 45 minutes later he walked by the table we were at and he said, Oh Curt the next round for you and your friends is on me.

Walter Payton in Hawaii when he was there for the pro bowl. Too bad I was 6 and lost his autograph like 4 minutes after i got it. And i golfed with Marcus Camby last summer. Walked up to the tee box, introduced myself. He told me his name was Russel. Yeah right. I said "okay whatever you say Marcus." He was cool and a decent golfer.

March 25th, 2008, 04:42 PM
A while ago when my mom did the "Richard Petty Driving Experience" (a few laps around PPIR with her driving a 600hp beast  ), there was a thing where people under 18 could ride along with a pro NASCAR driver which I did. I could've sworn the driver was a Wallace but being 12 or so, I didn't think anything of it so I don't remember for sure. What I do remember however was going around the track at 160 mph.
Other than that, I haven't met any famous folk, but my dad's Christmas present was tickets to the US Senior Open at the Broadmoor and I'm going with him so maybe I'll meet someone cool there.

I had lunch with President George W. Bush in FL- I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT! Not even kidding, after we ate- I got a photo with him and some Army Rangers.
I don't frankly give a flying FK what haters (aka armchair QB's) say about him, he's a good man. There's a level of turmoil he must contend with that is on a level that we couldn't ever hope/want to fathom. (Unless you've walked a mile in a man's shoes how can you judge him?) Whether you love him or hate him- GOD BLESS AMERICA! Sorry about the mini rant  , I wasn't trying to hijack the thread and turn it into politics!
I also met the lead singer of Everclear- Art Alexakis over on the left coast in LAX. Cool guy, just as advertised.

Biggest thrill was to shake the hand of the last man on the moon - Eugene Cernan, back in 1974 when we dedicated the Wilbur Wright Birthplace.

Sid Fernandez, retired Mets pitcher is my cousin, and a jerk.
Rode in an elevator with David Robinson, who was polite, and pleased when I told him I wasn't interested in his autograph.
And last, I was physically thrown out of a bar by Dennis Smith when the Broncos practiced in Greeley. Seems you are supposed to be really impressed with what others do for a living.

Most of mine are racing:
Rick & Roger Mears, Robby Gordon, Wally Dallenbach Sr & Jr., Chris Foresberg, lots of desert racers since Loopi and I interviewed them at the Laughlin Leap for TORR this year. Others are Goldie Hawn, Rick Schroader, Patch Adams (sat next to him on a plane, he's super cool)
But how many know me and can actually say Hi Val if I walk up to them: Cameron Steele (trophy truck driver and ESPN announcer), Pistol Pete (lets face it, he is a celeb), Jesse James, Shannon Campbell, Roger & Brad Lovell, Jeremy McGrath.

Flavor Flav - at the Atlanta Airport. He wasn't wearing his glasses, BUG EYES!! Had the clock around his neck.
Lionel Richie - at the Denver Airport. Nice guy.
Boomer Esiason - Met him at Elliott Aviation in Omaha where I worked. He was passing through. Really nice guy.
Garth Brooks - Met him at TAC Air in Omaha (another place I worked). He was in Omaha to test to see if he could be a donor for a bone marrow transplant for Chris LeDoux. He was waiting for the crew of his plane to show up. Talked with him for about 30 min. Very down to earth!!
Warren Buffet - Talked with him several times. He flies out of Elliott Aviation in Omaha. The coolest part, he drives himself there, never takes a front parking spot, and carrys his own bags. Last time I saw him come through there (2003 - when I last worked there) he was driving a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, with custom plates that read "Thrifty".
Met a few other local celeb's in different cities, but nothing to jump and scream about.

I went to school and played HS sports with Mike Scioscia who was an all star catcher for many years with the L.A. Dodgers and has been Manager of the Anaheim (now L.A.) Angels for several years. He won a World Series with the Angels in 200. He gave me a couple of baseballs with al the Dodgers sigs on them when he was still on the team. Great guy.
I went to college with Howie Long and knew him a little bit. He was one bad dude and I knew enough never to p*ss him off. Big, fast and mean ain't a combination I wanted to deal with. Great football player and pretty darn good behind the mic on TV too.

I used to make breakfast every saturday for the guy that started Ringling Bros Circus. I also cooked for Michael Gross (Dad on Family Ties).
Delivered room service to Slash and his clan at the same hotel. What a jerk! Opened the door, took his food and slammed the door in my face. I had the front desk add on another $20 to his room charges for my tip.
Delivered room service to Shaq (whole baked chicken and 1 pound of steamed broccolli) his duffle bag is larger than my coffee table, really nice person and very down to earth. Of course I don't know squat about bball and told him that right off the bat so I think he let his guard down a bit knowing that I was not some rabid fan. Chatted for a bit about things to do around KC and he thanked me for making his dinner after hours and gave me a $50 tip. I still have it because it was signed. Rick Fox was in the room but didn't say much.
I also met Tony Benett and Billy Dee Williams having lunch together at the Hyatt in KC when I was working there.
Rode the elevator with Sarah Michelle Gheller (sp?) and her bodyguard at the Hyatt in KC. She did not even so much as look in my direction. Pretty uncomfortable ride since we were not allowed to acknowledge famous people unless they said something first. I stood there with my chef uniform on and hands clasped behind my back for 46 floors.
Met the Stray Cats in the Skys rest at the Hyatt in KC when I cooked there. They were all having drinks and appetizers when I was out walking the floor and checking on guests. They spotted my chefs uniform and wanted to tell me they enjoyed the food. $20 tip.
before they got famous I used to hang out durring practice with the guys from Puddle of Mudd when I lived in KC. They practiced in the garage right next to my house.
My parents have a picture of me sitting on Boxcar Willie's lap when I was about 4.
I met Art Arfons (land speed guy) at a big AG expo in Iowa. He was pretty interesting to talk to. His daughter Dusty was there too but she didn't say much.

I've met...
chris rock, at record store in boston, cool guy, just wanted to get a gift for someone.
all the world series winning red sox, too bad I don't really care about baseball,
griffy jr and senior, a-rod, randy johnson, etc... of the old mariners on many occasions.
john paul jones (led zepplin) while working at guitar center,
all the guys in Dream Theater, phish, and other such technical jam band folks that hung out in the boston guitar center, along with pop punk bands such as simple plan, good charlotte, blink 182.
Neighbors back in seattle were The Presidents. Toured with a bunch of famous punk bands for a while, but being famous in punk rock, is like being famous in wheeling, you only know them if you're into it (Unseen, Toxic Narcotic, Big D, Kicked in the Head, Dropkick Murpheys).
Went to school with John Mayer, only saw him around though, never hung out with him. Everyone that did said he was a a bit of a pretentious jerk, but who knows, people like to say things.
Ohh and John Kerry and Mitt Romney, and a few other big boston political names (never saw ted kennedy), used to hang out in my convenience store, some interesting conversations to over hear I'll tell ya.
