So we aren't all as fortunate as Steve's son in law, who has a FIL who builds him a sweet rig.

My in-laws aren't bad at all, but for the love of Christ. A surprise party for my wife's 40th on Friday nite (3 months of planning, at least), followed by nephew's birthday party at Monkey Business (place where little kids can go wild), followed by nephew's opening of presents down in Parker (this takes all day Sat), followed by Easter brunch (about another 4 hours at in-laws house), on Sunday.

Now I get the call, "hey Scott, since it's Kelly's actual day of her birthday on Friday, why don't we get all nineteen thousand in-laws together and have another gigantic 4 hour clusterfawk dinner on Friday night"

Remind me again why I got married?

Oh, and if I'm not all gung-ho about everything, I'm (of course) some kind of fuddy-duddy who doesn't care about family, blah, blah, blah.

Thanks for listening, now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I hear ya. Growing up it was basically me, mom and grandma. Wife has all sorts of family and they are constantly getting together....ugh...

My side of the family gets together a couple of times a year for about an hour dinner.

And we call it done.

4 years in, and I'm still unable to handle this insanity of the in-laws and their inability to live seperately from their children.

My wife and I have mutually decided we'd much rather spent time with our friends than family.

My in-laws are the same way. Every cousin gets a b-day party that everyone goes to, evry holiday is hyped up and celebrated. And my wife gets made at me cause I don't talk to anyone. All her uncles are engineers or into computers. None of them really are into cars and they all love golf and basketball, so I don't have anything in common with them.

They live in Boise too. I've always said that anything closer than a couple hundred miles to parents or in-laws is too close. We've never lived closer than that to mine or Kathy's parents in our entire marriage and we like it that way. :D

I bet I could get the other two son in laws to cough up some dough and we could just buy them a place in Arizona- the 900 mile buffer zone would be well worth it.

I know one son in law would definitely be in, I'm in, but the other one may not be game for it.

Oh, and the other one who would be up for it is the one who lives in Montrose. And he only has to see them like 4X/yr.

Great, now not only did last weekend bring teh suck, I'm now officially dreading this weekend.

Please, please, please.........someone take a road trip to Moab, break down, and ask me to come out there to help you fix your rig on Friday night.

I'll get in the car with tools and be there asap!

True indeed. The only exception might be if you had young kids, and the in-laws / parents are enthusiastic babysitters. And even then, it's questionable.

Hey Scotty-I predict getting broke down in Moab. I can pretend that it's this weekend.

I don't envy you for this weekend though. Guess you won't be making it to Loopi's party huh?:(

My FIL and MIL are both gone. My parents as well. My SILs are all in Iowa. Which means I have to go to Iowa for Christmas every year. The ONLY good part, is I get to go Pheasant hunting, as much as I want.

I feel you Scott, the weekend is the time for me to get caught up on homework and my research project. I spent 7 hours on Easter dealing with Family and 4 hours on Friday night for nephew bday party.

x2. Actually, I prefer the 500 mile rule, as that's a full day's drive or an airplane ticket. My inlaws and I, and my own family and my wife, all get along great. The closest one is 1475 miles away, though.

I don't know about that.

Wow I must be lucky. I am on my second set of inlaws, and they are all great. My family is all way away, and they never get together in groups of more than 4. If they do, either someone is violating probation, or a fight breaks out. When my family fights, weapons are almost always involved.

Funny this came up. I got an invite to our family reunion this summer. I would love to be a fly on the wall. It is going to be an all out brawl. My dad, uncle, sister, and I have a pool going on how long it lasts. It is a week long, and I have $5 on the first good shouting match at the 2 hour point, and the all out brawl at the 3 hour point of the second day.

Post up how much you'll sell tickets for. Sounds like a good pay-per-view event.

We're having a bday party for our 10 year old friday night...but it's a pajama disco party with a disco ball and lots of bar food: loaded potato skins, hot wings, etc.

You're welcome to sit outside at the firepit with a cold Fat Tire. We'll all SAY we were stuck in Moab and you were our superhero. :D

I have no in-laws and my family is 1778 miles away. I like it that way. Love my family to death, but can only handle them in small doses.
