Had solid foods today...not nearly as painful as I thought and I was starving, last ate real food Tuesday night...and I HATE JELLO!!! Sugar Free Jello is just that much worse.
For those who don't know...most of you probably...I had my thyroid removed to help combat Graves Disease. My thyroid was extremely enlarged and causing me issues with breathing, swallowing and talking so instead of doing radiation they opted to remove it completely.
Went in Wednesday, was in the hospital until Thursday afternoon...doing my best now to ween off the pain pills and become coherent again.
Will be on some form of medication for the rest of my life to control the things that the thyroid did. But the surgery got me off the medication that has been making me sick as hell for the past few months.
If I could avoid coughing I would probably be a lot happier in the pain area, but its part of the process I am told.
As long as I dont have to eat anymore Jello I am probably ok.
I got a super cool new scar across my neck...guys dig scars right? Yeah, I got pics too :D

Thanks guys. I really want to say thanks to all the PMs with all you folks who have dealt with the same (or have someone in your life dealing with it). All the advice and info will really come in handy the next few months as we try to get things on an even keel.

HUm..... scars.... there was a girl I worked with at Toxic belch when I was 15 or so. Some dumb *&^% teen she was in a car with rear ended someone. No seat belt and she put her head through the windshield. At the time I met her everything on her face had healed. But she had a significant scaring on her throat from the windshield glass. Changed her voice to a deeper but sexy husky female voice....
I was in LUST with her.
I like scars much more than I do tats. At least scars have a story.

Also my ex had her thyroid iodine radiation poisoned. She was hyper thyroid and they tried to treat it for years, no luck.
Its extremely important you take those daily pills, forgetting for long enough might cost you your life.
And expect your weight to change in a not so positive way :(
The good news is you'll still be alive.
What kind of medical coverage do you have for prescriptions. My ex has learned a few tricks for getting the medication cheaper when her coverage sucks.

Idodine radiation wasn't an option for me due to it being so enlarged. I had/have full on Graves so the thing just wasn't workign at all...
And lets not even talk about the weight issues...fluctiated within a 50lb range for a year up and down...makes clothes shopping a spin the wheel game for sure...right now I *think* I am on the downhill slide again.
The pills are my biggest fear, I forget to take my diabetes meds as it is now...I am trying to find a system that makes it a lot less easier to forget. Cause yeah, forgetting for a long enough time can be deadly.
My insurance covergage just sucks period, but the initial 'scripts weren't too bad so I am hoping that continues. Although I may need to talk to your ex at some point...ya know!
Thanks for the info!

Tiffany, I Hope your recovery is swift and that those boys are taking good care of you. :D
I've had Hashimoto's for 15 years and my thyroid finally burned out altogether. I have been using Synthroid for years. A few years ago I tried going off the Synthroid and self treated w/foods and herbs- BIG MISTAKE. While natural treatments work very well for many things, a serious Thyroid problems is not one of them.
As far as med reminders, I find using a cell phone or PDA alarm works best for those of us w/electronic leashes since 1) you have to turn it off and 2) it's always with you.

Set alarms in your phone unless you're one of the people smart enough not to carry one. Or google "medication alarms".

Damn, this is what is so sad....I am attached at the hip to my PDA phone and never once did setting an alarm on the phone hit me in the head like a load of bricks...DOH!!!!
Can I blame it on the drugs? Actually setting alarms in Outlook now for all 3 doses of daily meds...will sync phone shortly...THANKS!!!!
