Thanks

There's a million of them. I'm interested to hear what others have to say as well as I'm trying to find a place too.

What are you looking for? Downtown party living? Personally I would look around Uptown/Capitol Hill area. A little more "authentic".

Denver's full, try the Springs.

I'd recommend any of the AMLI properties and the one down @ Park Meadows has fast access to E-470 which will get you to DIA in ~ 30 mins.

There is also an AMLI @ Gateway Park which is like 15 minutes from the airport and no tolls.

Stay away from Hawthorne Hill Apartments in Thornton. I had a horrible experience there. Our neighbors that lived down stairs from us would call the cops every time we had more than 2 people in our apartment, even if it was noon on a sunday. They would complain to the management and not get the answers they were looking for, then call the cops. We were unable to live comfortably for about 3 months, I was afraid to get up to piss at night. The management was not doing any thing to fix the situation. We were ready to move out. We were told that we could not move out with out breaking our lease and having to pay extra. We were to the point we did not feel safe in the apartment, and told them that, still nothing. We informed them that any more contact from us would be coming from out lawyer, that we did not have but made it sound good. Then they finally moved the people that lived underneath us. I don't think it was going to happen any other way. Some of the management was pretty disrespectful toward us any time we would go in the office and talk to them about our problem. We didn't even know there was a problem until the office informed us. The office staff would go into the apartment below us when they complained. The people making the complaints were told it was normal apartment noise and if they would have to live with it. We were not doing any thing wrong, but still got treated like trash in the office. I know this problem was an isolated incident but a lot of other things happened when we were there.

One girl had her window broken by an ex-boyfriend, big rock
Some one had their balcony set on fire from the people below them, on purpose.
Police where there constantly. We had the K-9 unit a few nights looking for people.
2 apartments that were in the same section as us had notices on their doors for forcible entry, from the police.

We also payed over $900 a month for rent, it looked really nice and the apartment was great. Except for all the other problems around us. Was only about 25 minutes from DIA.

Why not? It's certainly a buyer's market right now. Home ownership gives a MAJOR tax break to a single person. It is never too soon to begin building home equity. One of my major financial frustrations during my military career was my inability to invest in real estate on a long term basis.

As to the original question: take a look at southeast Aurora. Lots of nice-to-upscale housing including rentals are/have recently been built in that booming part of town. The boom is fueled by the easy access to E-470 with quick commutes to both DIA and the Tech Center.

My main reasoning for not wanting to purchase is I generally travel every week for work, and don't want to have to deal with maintenance on a house on the weekends.

Sounds like you are in the market for a townhome in one of the developments where you pay a monthly fee and the Outside maintainence is done by the homeowners association. Then you hire a cleaning service to come in for a couple of hours every other week to handle the big stuff and your weekends consist of light dusting and heavy wheeling. ;)

Before you move into a town home.... if you work on your own junk check the HOA regs... townhouses are normally a bit stricter than housing. Could be as strict as no vehicle maintenance what so ever.

Close to DIA is hard. Aurora in the hood is pretty bad. But that whole area around the old Fitzsimmons is going to skyrocket in the next five years.

What exaclty are you looking for? Party central like downtown? Walk to grocery store/bar/theater? Short commute to work? Traffic?

imitationdave
March 10th, 2008, 10:12 AM
Being Close to DIA isn't really all that important. Being able to walk to the store/bar or whatever would be nice.

I don't really have a commute, I either work from home or go to the airport to fly to a clients site.

Thanks

I would have bought this condo in a heart beat if I could have had garage space. All of my tools and two bikes I have to have a garage.

But the location is awesome. 1 mile from hwy 25

I like living west of Denver. I would think Golden would be ideal. I live up in Evergreen and it take me 45 mins to 1 hr to get to DIA but, out my backdoor are great hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as, I am that much closer to most of the wheeling trails.

I dont know if you are looking to rent or buy. But there are many townhome like places just down the road from there.

Not sure what you consider walking distance. But you could rent / buy other options just a further.

I regret I didnt buy a place there. I should have gone further down the road and bought a smaller place with a single garage. But the double garage rocks.

The housing market is down here right now so, why deter people from wanting to move here. If we can stimulate the influx of people, we then increase the demand for housing and our value goes back up again :D

That's funny, I lived in the apartment complex just north of where you are pointing (Tamarac Village, now just Tamarac Apartments) for two years from 05-07. I did like the area - lots of places close enough to walk to. If you're a computer geek, MicroCenter is literally a 20 minute walk to the South.

Also about 1.5 miles from I-225 straight down Tamarac.
