I have a 2005 that has been sitting for the winter and now due to my lack of knowledge I can not get it started. Is there somewhere I can take a basic class on what to look at or someone that would be willing to help a girl out LOL. I know I can take it to someone but I would really like to learn how to do it myself. If it was a jeep I would be all over it but I am a newbie with the bike.

I don't know of a "class" that anyone teaches around here, but there are some basics you can learn yourself with a book. I have a book by Eric Gorr on motorcycle maintenance and repair, but you may be able to find others. (I think this one is mainly focused on 2 strokes, if it has 4 stroke sections I haven't paid attention).

What I would do is log in to thumpertalk.com and ask for help in the Rocky Mountain forum. If you promise beer and pizza, I bet you'll find a few folks willing to help you out. I don't have a 4 stroke otherwise I'd offer myself, but if I tried it would be the blind leading the blind :D

Still, in the meantime you can try some simple things ... drain your tank and replace with fresh fuel, replace your spark plug, and maybe if you feel bold enough take your carb off and spray some cleaner in it. What exactly is it not doing? Will it turn over but not fire? Will it fire but not stay running?

BTW, if you go to TT I'm Firecracker on there too and there is a pretty decent women's forum.

Tyra,

Check the spark plugs, put fresh gas in it and make sure the battery has a charge. That would be a good starting point, if that doesnt work bring it by my house or I can stop by yours and we can do some more to get it running.

Sweet Thanks. I have a kick start as I do need a new battery. Gas is fresh so Spark plug would be next I just need to figure out where it is located I assume I will be able to find it.

it is under the gas tank, the gas tank must be removed to get to it.

Tyra, if you need some help, I am off from 3-5 to 3-7 and half a day on Sat. Just shoot me a PM. I have to do the same thing to my wife's quad...it isn't running to great either.

Gas is fresh...
Did you drain the gas in the carb or just the tank? If not, you still have old gas left in the float bowl of the carburetor.
