I am upgrading to something newer, longer, and stronger. Looking at a 04 king cat 900 with new motor, 02 rmk 800 151, and several 02-04 ski-doo 800's 144-162. I have heard of lots of trouble with the ski-doo motors. People replacing/rebuilding motors before 1000 miles. Any good or bad luck. I don't want to spend money and time on a newer sled to keep it running. Reliability is a must. All sled have under 1800 miles. And are not race sleds. Give me your thoughts. I currently have a 99 yamaha srx triple 700 with some mods. Thanks for any help.

How many miles? Any mods? I have heard that the 800's have the most trouble. Nice looking sleds though.

This is really subject to personal opinion but since you asked I will give you mine. I am not a fan of the Arctic cats, I ride with alot of guys who have them and they seem to have alot of small annoying problems, nothing major just enough to throw a wrench in your day of riding. The other consideration with a 900cc sled is horsepower to weight ratio, is the weight of the motor worth the few more ponies? Again theses are just my opinions and experiences, im sure there will be some dissagreement. The Edge chassis RMKs are the best sleds that Polaris has put out in recent years. I personnaly have one and with just a few monor mods (pipe, can, reeds, airbox, clutching, big wheel kit, extroverts, rolled chaincase)it has great horsepower and the weight isnt too bad either. Mine has been extremely reliable, but I have kept the mods fairly simple to keep reliability (stay away from head work and bored out motors). Since the arrival of the REV chassis Ski doo has been the sled to beat. Evreyone I know that has gotten on one has sold whatever they have to buy one. The reliability has been good and most of the problems I have seen have more to do with maitenance. A positive to consider with the Ski Doo is the wider track. This means that a 144" ski doo has as much floatation in the powder as a 151" polaris. If you are a big guy it may not matter but for the rest of us more track is harder to throw arround. Most sleds make good horsepower but alot is lost in clutching and driving the track. You can do some basic mods to the motor without affecting the reliability (opening up the intake and exhaust) but too many people forget that dialing in your clutch will make a 600 smoke a 1000, spend some time and $ here. After the clutch is solid work on freeing up the track (big wheels and extroverts). Lastly reduce weight, do you really need all those bogey wheels? If I dont make it to the top of the hill its rarely because of the sled, sure nitrus and turbos could get me more places but I would spend every other weekend rebuilding my motor. Again just my $.02:beer: :flipoff2:

What noahfecks said x2!
The weight of a King Cat is its demise. The only AC I would ever consider are the '06 and up M7 and M8.

BenBoggan, check out www.snowest.com, they have a ton of info there. 04-05 ski doo 800 rev had ring issues usually at about 1300+miles. But if that's been done the REV chassis is a fun sled. I had 02-05 rmk's and sold all of them, and got 4 REVs 04-07's. I'm not brand loyal, just wanted something that was reliable, plus my mechanic has raced Ski Doo for years.
