Huge uproar about this article on the CU campus which is supposed to be a satire  Granted it was in their opinions section, but an editor still had to read it for it to be posted publicly.
Can't believe that made it into a public article on The Campus Press (CU's online news weekly)

Dude, it's CU. Anything goes there as long as they can call it something it's not.

Humor? No. Sophomoric at best.

Wow, didn't think it would make any news. I saw it earlier today and thought it was just funny.

Hmmm, that was interesting. Sounds like a freshmen in high school wrote it and used a thesaurus to use a few big words.

Yeah, interment camps were a riot, too.

I generally find offensive humor to be quite funny. Not sure I see any humor in this what so ever.
Except maybe the booster seats for the Hummers.
Too bad stupid isn?t illegal.

Oh but to see the humor, you have to understand (and probabably be submersed in) Asian culture for a good while. I bet the Asian students who understand it will probably find it pretty funny.
What I find the most interesting about it is that she is not making fun of the Asians, she is making fun of the american students, and our ways of doing things. Being in the middle of asia right now, and having several friends who have gotten degrees in the US, I get her point. It is hard to understand thier culture, especially for us americans.

Please note - all the comments on the article seem to be the bitching of current and former staff.
Huge public reader base they've got there.

Mike,
I did read and note that. But when I read it, there were ~180 comments, the first few were previous staff, but then it turned into a public arena. I suspect that campus news spread about the article though, so people began to log on and read.

Too lame to even be offensive. Yeah, there's some culture difference, but I see as much culture difference between my Chinese and my Cambodian friends as between either group and me (we didn't have any Japanese at all, but now that I've worked there, they're a whole new category of outlier).
The only thing less imaginative than the article is the comment section below it.

That was the same twit that said he?d been mad enough to kill 40 people before and got all bent out of shape because his free speech was infringed upon when they suspended him.
I?m guessing that Asians, among all races, look at him with utter detest because he?s a pompous, sniveling little bastard. I?ve heard him and his father interviewed on 850 before and they?re just sub-human scum. It?s sick to me that the school would publish this drivel.
I?m all for offensive humor, or a comic commentary on society, or even a legitimate commentary on society, this is none of the above. It?s a poorly written ?article? that?s really not funny, offensive, or insightful, it?s just stupid. It?s like this kid wants to write for the onion, but he?s not clever, funny, or a good writer, so he writes opeds for the CU news paper, what a reject.

It would have been more offensive if the author used the word Oriental instead of Asian. :)

I haven't been to the CU rec center in years, but I will conclude that the ping-pong tables must be near the racquetball courts.
When I went to school there, the only people who ever used the ping-pong tables were the Asian guys. Man, they were good...........

Much ado about nothing.
Now, if it had been an article attacking and threatening the newly named CU President it would be hailed on campus and in Boulder as heroic and insightful. ;)

I am shocked he made it in.
Cindy Carlisle is a hack.
I think he'll do well for the Univ. I'm also of the opinion, however, that they compromised for the sake of his money and ability to bring money, when more should have been considered in the decision.
Before anyone chimes in with the "it's a business decision" rationale, I'll ask that you please keep in mind- this is CU- the rules of the universe and logic do not apply, so before you try to reason why this guy was a rational decision (which it may well have been), remember, it's CU.
Dude should have an advanced degree, and express views that are more in line with the general campus populus, and faculty, IMO.
He's a money-maker, but that's about all.

So which is it? If he'll do well why does he need an advanced degree and why should he change his politics to be more liberal? Running a large University is a business, it is not the job of an educator.

If the populus and faculty are against him, i'm guessing he's a good choice.
Advanced degree is no biggie imo, MAYBE an MBA or something would be nice, but I don't want someone that ingrained in the educational system. Most PhD's lose sight of the real world, not a good idea for someone who's job is to find the big money and reel it in.

I completely agree with you.
But, like I said, the rules of logic do not apply.
It's a business, but there are other considerations.
He's out selling the virtues and benefits of higher education, but doesn't have an advanced degree?
Huh? Do as I say (and spend your money accordingly), but not as I do? Kind of a mixed message.
Then there's the whole righteous CU stance on all things political, and the dude is a friggin' Republican oil man.
Wait, this is crazy. So maybe it's perfect for CU, since it is "Bizarro-World". :D :D :D

I wasn't aware that CU only had Advanced Degree programs. The man does have a basic college education, isn't that something over and above the basic education that everyone is entitled to in this country, and isn't that what the vast majority of students that go to college end up with??
Do people expect that now that he is President, the alternative energy programs, the overall liberal-based learnings of that institution, and things like a gun ban on campus are going to be magically reversed or done away with?
It is human nature to pre-guess the appointment based on philisophical differences, but the Regents will need to answer for their actions in the future, as will Mr. Benson based on his performance in office...
